Trade Deadline 2014

Mmmhm. They've got 48 million committed right now to 16 players for next year. They spent 56 million in payroll this year.

They wont be a cap team in the next few years, listened to a Melnyk interview about this topic. Funds are a bit tight there, they are not going to spend with the big boys anymore.

Blues still seem a bit weak down the middle; at least in comparison to the Kings who are deep at center. Whether their strengths in other areas is enough to compensate, who knows? Blues might be scoring well now, but can they duplicate that in the post-season? They had problems advancing far in playoffs in recent history because they couldn't score goals.

Just noticed this:

BuffaloSabres: Sabres get a 2014 first round pick if St. Louis makes Western Conference Finals this year or if Miller re-signs with Blues.

Yeah but they have Quick who has shown he often elevates his game when it counts. Miller, while good, is overrated IMHO.

they are both overrated

but the difference between the two does not make up for the Kings lack of goal scoring
they really need to address that...or get hot at the right time again

Which team is already loaded with a bunch of 1st rounders? Is it Buffalo?

If memory serves me right, they have their own pick for this year, a conditional first from the NYI (If it's a top-10 pick, the NYI can choose to make it a 2015 first round pick) and a conditional first on the count of St. Louis making the Western final or re-signing Miller.

If they trade Moulson, they might get another late first. Maybe one for C. Erhoff as well.

sabres had i think 2 first rounds and 4 second rounders last year

potentially 3 first rounds this year...though i think it will end up being 2 at most (the isle pick is top 10 protected) and this blues one

plus 4 second rounders

I didn't mean to imply that the Kings are the team to beat in the West, only that the Blues acquisitions today don't make them noticeably better than them (let alone the favourites to reach the Finals).

i put the kings about 5th in the west...just ahead of the avs because of the recent cup win

it is the hawks, sharks, ducks that the blues are battling with for the top spot

so you are right that these trades do not make the blues better than the kings....they already were

Well if the Blues win the cup this year, that would leave everyone's favorite team as the one with the longest cup drought

Good Lord...thats ridiculous. He's good enough to be one of the 60 goalies in the NHL next year. Unless a KHL team offers him more money.

Halak has an ego, he isnt going to be a $2 million goalie next year in the NHL , he will go to the KHL.. it is common knowledge that he has butted heads with you know who..

It looks like Sabres can make the next couple of drafts the building blocks....they'll likely get more top round picks once they deal Erhoff and Moulson
