Trade Deadline 2014

You missed my point. Briere is going to offset the cap. The deal is Collberg or Fucale + 1st...Briere is added to make the cap hit work if need be. Kala.

But it doesn't. Myers has a long-term cap hit, as does Gorges. The Briere move would be a temporary fix.

I doubt Myers gets moved anyway, another pipe dream like Kesler. Their respective GMs will ask too much and end up retaining them.

Bourque is a poor example , he was never any good to begin with , Myers was a Calder winner and looked to be a top 20 future d man .

JVR didnt lived up to his billing with Philly after a decent start and he has fit in nicely in TO

sometimes a change is what you need , I would definitely take Myers if all it took was Gorges and some b level prospects who may never play for us .

If anything it's a poor example because Rene was much better than Myers his first 4 years in the NHL.

Bourque had 3 quality seasons in his first 4 years in the NHL. Going by stats alone Myers is much much worse than Bourque.

Ok, let me give you another example which took me 5 seconds to think about. Here it is, the Legen.... (wait for it)... dary JIM CARREY! Vezina trophee winner, On the All star rookie team and fell off the face of the earth. A few team thought he could repeat his amazing first season (boston, st-louis) but they realized his accomplishements were more the exception than the normality.

Myers will never be better than he is now. AT least, unlike Carrey, he can probably grind his way into a somewhat NHL carreer but he will not be a top 2-4 material.

decent goalies are a dime a dozen now , Martin Jones , Khubodin , Reimer, Scrivens etc....who cares

Nonnis took a chance acquiring a goalie who barley played in Bernier and has been among the top 10 this year for overall play

point is if you get him sacrificing Gorges and scrubs you take the deal ....its a risk I would take any day of the week for this passive team

Lupul , JVR , Brassard , Steen, etc.... are all examples of teams who took a chance in acquiring assets for their teams for the hope of improved play and they have paid off regardless if they were injured , out of favour , or simply needed a new environment .

You can't force feed a trade now to cover off the cap in the 3rd year onwards. That's not logical IMO. Things change by then. Too much happens.

jprutherford: Confirming reports that Ryan Miller is a late scratch tonight. It's believed that a deal is imminent and STL is the likely destination.

TSNBobMcKenzie: STL would get Miller, OTT would get Chris Stewart, BUF would get prospects from OTT. If Ott (the player) included to STL, 1st rounder to BUF.

Buffalo would most likely get Halak as well back because St. Louis can't take on Miller + Ott without going over the cap.

Buffalo would likely get Halak + Jaskin + Picks for Miller & Ott, assuming Ottawa fills in to take Stewart.

When all is said & done, Buffalo might end up with 4 first round picks by the time the trade deadline passes. Assuming they'll get one in return for Matt Moulson.

The Blues have acquired Ryan Miller & Steve Ott from Buffalo for Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, William Carrier & two picks.

The two picks are a first-rounder in 2015 and a third-rounder in 2016.

From the Blues' wesbite,

St. Louis Blues PresThe Blues have acquired goaltender Ryan Miller and forward Steve Ott from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier, a first-round draft pick in 2015 and a third-round draft pick in 2016.

I'm very surprised Buffalo wasn't able to get Jaskin or Rattie from St. Louis.

They got a first from a better draft in 2015 than this year's, though.

My goodness did the blues ever pay a lot. I guess they figure this is their cup year.
