Trade Deadline 2014

Montreal also sent the Rangers 2007 first-round draft pick Ryan McDonagh, Pavel Valentenko and the rights to Doug Janik to New York while the Rangers gave up Tom Pyatt and Mike Busto.

To put things in perspective about how bad the market was today for rentals Hal Gill once fetched a 2nd rounder and AKos did also.

vanek a 2nd an an ok prospect only

Heh. The Caps know Halak well...

Edit: Yes, I was slow on the uptake. I had to google Halak to figure out where he plays.

Pissed? Naw. I lost my mind. Went on a full blown Habsy rant.

I'm still upset about it when I think on it.

I have suppressed my anger.

It was a salary dump...Gainey should have taken that contract for on for nothing.

But apparently Sather said there was a bidding war between the habs and another western conference team.

A buyers market this season. Lot's of players up for grabs.

It was indeed a great year to be a buyer.

If you look at the past like last last year and the year before Iginla fetched quite a bit and even Jagr cost a 1st rounder to boston

Garth Snow turned Matt Moulson and a first round pick into Colberg and a second rounder. Horrible asset management.

What makes it an even bigger blunder is that he had Vanek for what? 40 or so games

That's truly a pathetic move all the way

Pavel Valentenko was seen as a prospect at the time. Had a pretty good first season in the Hammer. Habs had prospect from Euro like Thorp, US Kishel and Stejkal... never burst after the draft. Cameron Cepek abruptly end his career with bad injury in the AHL.

Valentenko was included in the Gomez deal too.

You know you suck as a franchise when playing with JT isn't enough to make a player want to stay.
