Trade Deadline 2022

You're smoking crack if you think anyone is giving us a first for Weber's contract. I don't expect much in return, if at all
The goal is to not have to offer up a carrot stick to take on the contract.

Getting complete cap relief from Weber’s $7.8M is a grand slam. Which also paves the way for a Letang contract to fit in as replacement ..

Zona will be below the cap floor on July 1.

Weber’s contract is nice for them, high cap hit but a low real cash hit. It’s potentially the cheapest solution for them.

Maybe not a first, but something in return is fair.

But a buyer in Houston might not like it.

It might be convenient for them but it's also convenient for us. Who else is going to go in a bidding war with Arizona to get that contract? Weber for future considerations would be a win already.

If your a legit contender for the next 3-4 years , team is giving you 7.7 of get out of cap jail money for free every year to circumvent the cap

If your clearly going to spend over the cap , you do it if your Colorado , etc....

If that team wont pony up a low first they are smoking cheap crack

That is a massive cap boost to resign Nate and retain or acquire others

If not let Weber rot on LTIR and use it for our cap , no need to spend to the max while team is rebuilding

Wait for the right time for cap strapped teams to pony up

You dont get cap relief from Weber to spend on another vet on this team , waste of time on this lousy team

Build the roster first , too many holes to fill than give a 37 year old money

Michael Russo of The Athletic made a case for the Wild to trade for Weber's contract:

One thing the Wild might want to consider is attempting to acquire the rights to injured Montreal Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber’s contract.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman mentioned on “Hockey Night in Canada” on Saturday that the Canadiens are willing to trade the contract.

Why would or should the Wild be interested?

We all know about their cap hell the next three years when the dead money for buying out Zach Parise and Ryan Suter becomes $12.7 million, then $14.7 million and $14.7 million, respectively.

If the Wild acquired Weber, presuming his latest injury is actually career-ending, the Wild would have to pay him only $6 million total the next four years plus the prorated remainder of this season. Weber carries an annual $7.857 million cap hit that could be placed on long-term injured reserve. It’s complicated and would take some annual maneuvering for Guerin and his team to make it work, but it may be one way to allow them to re-sign Fiala or delve into free agency.

Again, it’s complex, just a thought and obviously wouldn’t help them out of their current unstable situation.

If Bettman were to look the other way and allow any team not to reach the cap floor and find some way to justify it, it would be the Yotes. After all, he's allowing them to play in a 5000 seat arena (that they may not even be able to fill) and there's no way he'd do that for any other franchise.

I think you greatly overvalue the LTIR impact of Weber's contract. It doesn't magically allow a team to ice a $88M roster excluding Weber. What it helps is increasing their off-season cap space to resign players, but they still have to ice a 81.5M team (until the playoffs).

Agreed , but for a team like Colorado you got 30+ mil of cap circumventing flexibility for the next 4 years when Nate`s new 11-13 mil deal kicks in after next season .

I am sure you can use some of that coin to go over the cap during the season after the 81.5 mil is used

Injuries create TB style , " cap creativity " that is a major boost to a team

For measly 25th -32nd pick in a weak draft , thats chump change

McBain (former Jets Andrew McBain’s kid) is rumored to be testing NCAA UFA not signing w Minny.

If accurate, Gorton / Hughes likely have inside info from their Boston connections and are confident they can sign him after BC season is completed
