This Ty Smith could be interesting. Offensive chops but allegedly a questionable work ethic.

I mean, Smith played a full season for the Devils and the bigger chunk of another one before he ended up in Pittsburgh in the John Marino trade. So, it's not like there's no book on the guy, since he's got well over 100 NHL games under his belt. He's a puck mover and a pretty good PP guy but he's smallish and not great in the D zone. At 23, MAYBE he's got another gear that he hasn't found yet ... but probably not ... and it's doubtful that playing in Carolina's man to man based scheme is gonna help him any. In the short term, he's insurance depth for the Canes. In the long term, he's potentially not a Hurricane at all, ever. Which is fine.
 
Canes and Kuznetsov rumors swirling...oh boy! LeBrun confirmed trade call coming. Apparently a done deal now.

Columbus has acquired Malcolm Subban from the Blues for future considerations. I wonder if this means the potential move of one of the Jackets' goalies (even if Subban has been in the AHL all season).

Slugs trade Kyle Okposo to the Panthers for dman prospect Calle Själin, currently playing for the Checkers. Slugs get a 2024 7th rounder that becomes a 5th if the Panthers win the Cup. No salary retention.

Jordan Eberle is off the market, he just signed a 2 year extension with Seattle.
 
Toffoli to the Jets is complete, the Devils get a 2024 3rd and a 2025 2nd. Devils retain 50%

Wild send Pat Maroon to the Bruins for a conditional 2026 6th rounder. Maroon is 2-3 weeks away from returning after back surgery.
 
Slugs send dman Erik Johnson to the Flyers for a 2024 4th rounder.

Yotes send Jason Zucker to Nashville for a 2024 4th rounder that they got from Dallas.

The Habs clear their goalie logjam and trade Jake Allen to the Devils for a conditional 2025 3rd rounder. If Allen plays 40 games (he‘s under contract for next year), it moves to a 2nd rounder. Habs retain 50%

Vanacek and Schmid were a lot better last year than this. Were they 1 season wonders or is this year an aberration? Vanacek has 1 year left on his contract, Schmid is a RFA with arbitration rights, Nico Daws is a RFA with no arbitration rights.
