OT: American Politics

I don't understand how anyone could prefer podcasts to youtube tbh.

especially since all the podcasts are on youtube anyways - and even better, clips from those podcasts that get rid of all the filler.
Most podcasts are terrible. The only good podcast was history daily and it's done now. 20 min recaps of historical events. Where is that on YouTube?

you're not paying attention!

my time is a limited resource.

I don't have time to dedicate to watching daily youtube videos. period.

I don't have time to dedicate to solely listening to podcasts on a daily basis, either. But when I walk my dog, or cook, or exercise, I can listen to a podcast while I do these things. I do them anyways, so adding a podcast does not further impose on my time.

podcasts are much more functional and practical for people with busy schedules than youtube.

I’m with you 100% on this point. I have zero patience or time for or interest in consuming news or educational content by sitting down and watching videos.

If I do have the time for it, my preference by orders of magnitude to sit down and read it. And if I don’t have the time, I’ll listen to it in podcast form when I’m doing something else, like commuting, cleaning or doing work around the house.

So pretty much the only time I ever use YouTube is when there is a specific mechanical or home maintenance repair I need to do and it’ll help for me to see a visual demonstration of how it’s done. And even then you usually have to sift through a bunch of other BS or listen to the person who made the video drone on about other crap before you get to the meat of the content.

do you have any interests

No, I mean—what would be the point of listening to a YouTube version of podcast, when I can just use a specific podcast app?

And for YouTube content other than podcasts—why would I want to listen to the audio track of content that was made specifically for a visual medium?

mostly because youtube gives you access to so much more than podcasts. also, there's podcast highlights which are better than wasting your time listening to entire podcasts.

And for YouTube content other than podcasts—why would I want to listen to the audio track of content that was made specifically for a visual medium?

because a huge portion of youtube videos - especially expert-level videos, aren't really specifically made for the visual medium. some are sure. but many aren't, even if they add in some visual content as a bonus. and many don't.

Back when I used to listen to podcasts it was basically hardcore history and Sam Harris. Sam lost part of his functioning mind and all of his friends ended up being right wing grifters, but Dan Carlin posts all of his stuff on youtube thankfully if you're looking for a good history podcast.
