No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

I don’t want any of these guys. Why are we moving out assets we don’t have to for players that don’t really move the needle.

I like our flawed prospects more than any of the guys mentioned. Like I see Minten probably being as good as a guy like Laughton within a year.

Get difference makers with time on their side. Not these 30+ has beens that we’ve been burned by year after year.

Yeah, we’re on the same page here. My interest in guys like either of the Schenns, Laughton or O’Reilly is less than zero.

Don’t want any olds, don’t want any rentals, don’t want any 3rd/4th line or bottom-pairing caliber talent. Enough of that shit. How many years are we going to waste assets on these same kind of guys?

Parayko has the exact same contract as Schenn, but is 2yrs younger.

at least 1 more

19 deadline acquisitions.
14 pending UFA's
10 guys in their 30's

And in the group of five players who were in their 20's and had at least a year of control left when we acquired them, you'll find the two best trade acquisitions we've made in the entire Shanahan era---Muzzin & McCabe.

Probably even more ugly when we add up all the pics and futures given up here

Well what the hell, I went and looked it up. Here's the sum total of players and picks the Leafs have fired out of a cannon at the deadline for mostly pending UFA's older than 30 years old.

If you want to try and find an upside here, out of all the young players and minor leaguers we traded away, Trevor Moore & Sean Durzi are really the only NHLers of any real note at all.

But good fucking god, the draft capital we traded away:

4 x 1st rounder
6 x 2nd rounder
6 x 3rd rounder
4 x 4th rounder
2 x 6th rounder

Trevor Moore
Sean Durzi
Carl Grundstrom
Byron Froese
Rinat Valiev
Kerby Rychel
Nick Ritchie
Pavel Gogolev
Joey Anderson
Adam Gaudette
Mikhail Abramov
Dmitry Ovchinnikov

It's funny but conceptually the ones that really burn are high picks given up for guys who were slotted for the 4th line/bottom pair. 2nd rounders for Boyle and Plekanec. Lou trades.

a tough one to measure is Campbell. was he a good add or a bad one? i think overall probably good?

Sandin (1st/Gustafsson)

1st (Muzzin)
1st (Foligno/Noesen)
1st (McCabe/Lafferty/5th/5th)
1st (O'Reilly/Acciari)

2nd (Boyle)
2nd (Plekanec)
2nd (Gio/Blackwell)
2nd (Gio/Blackwell)
2nd (Boosh)
2nd (McCabe/Lafferty/5th/5th)
2nd (O'Reilly/Acciari)

Durzi (Muzzin)

3rd (Campbell/Clifford)
3rd (Campbell/Clifford)
3rd (Gio/Blackwell)
3rd (O'Reilly/Acciari)
3rd (Schenn)
3rd (Edmundson)
3rd (Boosh)

Moore (Campbell/Clifford)
Grundstrom (Muzzin)

4th (Foligno/Noesen)
4th (Foligno/Noesen)
4th (O'Reilly/Acciari)
4th (Dewar)

5th (Edmundson)

6th (Boosh)

7th (Nash)

of course a bunch of those picks were acquired by trading guys away, too.

1st, onenof our 3 top prospects and another prospect for a close to dusted 33 yesr old with 3 years left.

gfys

Yup.

B Schenn should be a salary dump. Not a "member of the Blues core" who is going to command a high price. Dude is an okay 2C making 6.5 million until he's 36. The exact type of piece that the Blues should be looking to get rid of asap so they can redeploy that cap space.

If they are eating 50% then I could see a 1st or 1 of the 3 players mentioned plus a B asset.

If the ask is 2026 1st, minten +++ then just go after a player that is good

If those types of assets are required I'd be asking for Parayko as well.

The brother stuff is cool if/when it's used to lure free agents or contract negotiations etc.. but it's pretty lame if you are trying to better your roster with worse players. I wouldn't want to give anything up for Luke, maybe future considerations or an AHL plug.

Luke Schenn has another year at 2.75 mill next year. Why would we want that? If we had him at that contract he’d have zero value and be impossible to move without adding an asset.

No thanks. Do better.

Potential targets that are under 30 and have term

Wing
Tuch +9
Schmaltz +7
McMann +5
Bjorkstrand +3
Bunting +1

Centers
Zacha +5
Glass +0
Novak +0
Cozens -1

D
Byram +7
Sandheim +6
Walman +4
Marino +4
Carlo -4

Not a lot of good centers. Though I think Jake Evans would be an under the radar pickup. The biggest difference between him and Laughton is Evan’s is actually a C. And he won’t cost a 1st.

Here's the thing, with his age, stats and term/cap hit he'd be viewed as a cap dump in Toronto. Just look at the narrative around Tavares last year at age 33.
It's absurd we are hearing how high the price is to get an aging, declining C with 3x6.5 left. That wouldn't happen in this market.
