2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Pretty sharp...and thankfully a bit of a departure from the Seahawks and Sounders blue and green color scheme that seems to be everywhere when you're in Seattle.

Yep. I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't put any neon green, even as an accent color.

I mean .... I know I'm yelling at clouds here, but how many times can you tease a thing before it becomes tedious? My limit is set on two, and that's one more than normal due to the pandemic. That was their third bite of the apple. At that point did you REALLY accomplish anything by teasing it ... again ... and dropping the announcement the following day? Just drop the thing out of the blue and let the drooling yobbos in the hockey media start complaining about it.

Speaking of which, I've got some complaints. The name? Whatever. It's hokey but fine. The colors? Very, very dark blue (almost, dare I say it ... black ... again) and a very light teal or ice green? Woo freaking hoo. Unlike the rest of you I actually like the shock green used by the Hawks and Sounders, and it would have been an actual change of pace in the stodgy old NHL. Instead we get yet more almost black and a shade of teal/green that's maybe four or five steps more subdued than the Sharks. I mean, it's fine ... but nothing even remotely edgy and out of the norm, which was what they've been teasing in Seattle.

BTW ... I really like the new Seattle logo. Just in case you thought I was an all purpose hater. The name is gimmicky, the colors are bland but the logo as great.

I like it too. When I watched the presentation, it looked like a rip off of the Mariners logo. Then it started morphing into the final product. Pretty cool.

Jerseys = meh. Name = yuk
I'm not a huge fan of the jerseys either. But then again, I almost never like jerseys until I see them on the ice. I hated Winnipeg's whites until I saw them in person and now I really like them. I'll reserve judgement on that except to say that I hope they have a light green alternate up their sleeves.

Caps backup goalie Ilya Samsonov is injured and is not on the 31 player roster. He didn’t practice at all during training camp. The Caps will bring Pheonix Copley and Vitek Vanecek to back up Holtby. Holtby will play the first 2 periods against the Canes on Wednesday, whoever Reirden decides on as the backup will play the 3rd. Copley played 27 games for the Caps in 2018-19 but spent all of 2019-20 in Hershey, splitting time with Vanecek, who has not played an NHL game yet.

Makes sense. Chayka hasn't really done much in Phoenix. He's taken some big swings but they haven't worked out and their development program is meh. That kind of club REALLY needs to be bringing along their own talent.

LeBrun says that Chayka terminated his contract. AGM Steve Sullivan has been named interim GM. So there is more to this story. Stay tuned.
