2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Winnipeg lost to Calgary 4-1 in the late game last night. Chairman Mo says that both Scheifele and Laine will see specialists today. Scheifele was injured early after a tangle with Matthew Tkachuk that Mo called a “filthy, dirty play”. Laine was injured in the 3rd period.

Drake Caggiula from the Blackhawks has a hearing today for a check to the head of Tyler Ennis. Ennis was not injured.

Not sure the end result (slicing a guy's leg with your skate blade) was specifically intentional by Tkachuk but I do buy that he was reckless and the result came from that recklessness. That guy is an issue, for sure.

I would have expected a lot of blood if he sliced Scheifele’s leg and I didn’t see it.

Caggiula has been suspended for 1 game.

So if you’ve been on social media this morning, you’ll see that they had hats in Edmonton for McDavid’s hat trick last night. Nobody thought to stock Toronto? And McDavid wasn’t having any of it, he just wanted to get back to the game. Of the series that have had 2 games played, Canes are the only team up 2-0. Isles/Panthers at noon, Jackets/Leafs at 4 for game 2 in both series. Yotes/Preds at 2:30 for game 2, Flames/Jets at 6:45 for game 3 and Wild/Canucks at 10:45 for game 2.

Well one advantage is Edmonton is playing in Edmonton... Toronto may have had hats ready for Matthews.. :p

I looked at the Canes bench and the only hat in sight was Reimer's. I've gotta say I was a little surprised that he didn't throw it out there, but maybe they've been told not to do that kind of thing. They're working pretty hard to keep towels and water bottles isolated for individual use, after all. McDavid put on a freaking show, didn't he? Poor Olie Maata

The only chance Maatta had was to Marty McSorley him. But he couldn’t even get close enough for that.

If I was a casual hockey fan, without allegiance to any team, McDavid is the one guy I’d pay cash money to see every time he came through town.

Agreed. He's electric, especially when he's playing with a bee in his bonnet. Mario-esque

After I ran a replay of a McDavid breakaway score yesterday on Twitter about 20 times, I realized the really incredible thing he did was after settling a chest-high pass in one touch while in full stride, he anticipated Maata's attempted stick check and flipped the puck over Maata's stick, again settling it in one touch, again at full speed, which is faster than anyone else's full speed. Insane. Poor Olie, indeed.

Yup. It's that second little flip that reminds me of Mario. It's not just that the guy has solid size and is probably the best pure skater in the league ... he's got hands for days and a brain that can perform those quick fire calculations without messing up the rest of whatever is happening. Dude is a freak and we only get to see players with that combination of skill set and athletic ability every so often. Respect.

Florida on the brink of elimination with the Islanders 4-2 win today. Game 3 for that series is tomorrow at Noon.
