2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Florida on the brink of elimination with the Islanders 4-2 win today. Game 3 for that series is tomorrow at Noon.
Florida did what the Rangers did last night. They threw everything and the kitchen sink on the ice early and only had a 1 goal lead to show for it. After that it was a matter of time before they got overrun.

Stuff of note in today's (Wednesday 8/5) Bubble schedule ...

As mentioned above, the Isles have a chance to close out the Panthers at Noon in Toronto.

Lightning/Bruins and Avs/Stars are the round robin games today, with that first one seeming like it matters more. That one is at 4 pm.

Everything else features series locked at 1-1. Oilers/Hawks is the nightcap and there have been offensive explosions in both of their two games thus far.

Leafs dman Jake Muzzin is out for the rest of the series against the Jackets. He was taken to the hospital after absorbing a cross check near the end of Tuesday’s games. Because he left the bubble, even to go to the hospital, he broke quarantine. I don’t remember what the rules are but if it’s only 7 days, he could be back for the first round if the Leafs advance.

They just said on the Isles-Panthers pregame show that Muzzin will out for the rest of the series.

We want all of the other qualifiers to go five games!
We do. And that means rooting for the Montreal Carey Prices tonight against the Pens. I doubt there's any way Montreal ends up winning that series, but grabbing a 2-1 lead and making Pittsburgh grind it out wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

Tampa beat the Bruins 3-2. That means we won’t see them in the next round, they can’t finish any lower than 2nd. The Bruins, OTOH, can’t finish any higher than 3rd.

Elliotte Friedman reports that Micheal Ferland is leaving the bubble due to injury. He only played 4 shifts, 2:36 in game 2. He just can’t catch a break.

WTF does that dude need to scare him. Drop of the puck he engages with Foligno and gets pounded in the head a slew of times. Just retire and save some grey matter for your wife and kids.

He’s only 28, he needs to think about the 40-50 years of his life.

Habs get a late goal from Jeff Petry and beat the Pens 4-3 to take a 2-1 series lead. Pens were up 3-1 halfway through the 2nd and the Habs scored 3 straight.

In the other 5-12 matchup, the Blackhawks get a goal from Toews with just over 1 minute left to beat Edmonton 4-3 and take a 2-1 series lead.

Spit-balling around an 18% chance (2 * 75% * 12.5%) currently then that either Pittsburgh or Edmonton will lose their series and get the #1 pick. Terrific.

Agreed. I really wish he'd go ahead and hang 'em up.

If Washington wins today and Pittsburgh loses their series, the Bruins will be our next opponent.
Surely the Pens will just switch goalies, figure out a defensive scheme that can keep a team that doesn't score that much from scoring a lot and grind out two games? Right? I was convinced they could yesterday afternoon. Now I dunno.
