2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Surely the Pens will just switch goalies, figure out a defensive scheme that can keep a team that doesn't score that much from scoring a lot and grind out two games? Right? I was convinced they could yesterday afternoon. Now I dunno.

Why is Jack Johnson still in the lineup?

There are 5 games on tap today, 3 qualifiers and 2 round robin games. Only 1 is an elimination game, the Flames can send the Jets home with a win. The others, Canucks/Wild and Leafs/Jackets, are tied 1-1. Game 4 in both series is tomorrow. Pens/Habs on Friday with a chance for the Habs to clinch. If they don’t, game 5 is Saturday.

Prolly because the next man up is either Chad Ruhwedel or Juso Riikola ... both of whom suck. AND they's playing Pettersen in the top 6 already. That D is not good man. Dumolin/Letang is maybe one of the best pairings in the conference and everything else is ... woof. It's not helping that Marleau looks absolutely cooked up front, either. They need to either get Sid and Co scoring some serious goals or they're going home early ... again.

And I know they do everything based on a very tight and disciplined team system, but this is Montreal we're talking about. They aren't going to jack in 5 or 6 goals if you loosen up the reigns on your forwards a little bit. Probably ... I dunno with Murray in there. They actually might.

We do. And that means rooting for the Montreal Carey Prices tonight against the Pens. I doubt there's any way Montreal ends up winning that series, but grabbing a 2-1 lead and making Pittsburgh grind it out wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

It wasn't Carey that won the game for us last night.

Habs are winning the series unfortunately.

You guys can beat Boston. Their D looks out of sorts. Habs will have to face Tampa should they win and I'd rather lose the first round than play Tampa.

We could beat Boston right now, yeah. By the time they would get to Carolina however, they'll more than likely have their mess together. That crew won't be terrible forever.

Rask only has 1 more game to get ready, against the Caps on Sunday. Maybe the Canes should have brought the Whalers jersies, they did reasonably well in them against the Bruins. We should also have Hamilton back.

Flyers beat the Caps Today, so,we’ll see either the Caps or Bruins in the first round. We’ll know our placement no later than Saturday, possibly as early as tomorrow. We won’t know our opponent until Sunday, when the Bruins and Caps play for 3rd place. Bruins need a win to finish 3rd. A win in OT or shootout will tie them with the Caps, but the Bruins get the spot based on higher regular season points pct.

Columbus gets a hat trick from Pierre-Luc Dubois, including thrnOT winner to push the Leafs to the brink. The Isles, Habs and Jackets are all up 2-1 and can close their series out on Friday at 12, 4 and 8, respectively.

No mo Mo, Calgary takes the series 3-1 with a 3-0 win. No round robin games today, all 6 are qualifying series. According to John Buccigross, the last time there were 6 elimination games on the same day was April 12, 1988.

6 potential elimination games today. SIX!!!!! Going to be a fun day, happy that the Canes clinched quickly so I can just enjoy the rest of the play-in round.

The way Holtby is playing, I think I'd rather see Washington.

And they have to ride him with only AHL goalies available. Granted, Copley was last year’s backup but still a big adjustment. Rask was back for Boston and you have to think he’s going to find his game.

Plus since they don’t consider us rivals they won’t be too fired up to beat us.

Josh Yohe, who covers the Pens for The Athletic, confirms that Tristan Jarry will start in goal today.
