2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

The Bruins signed former Canes draft pick Matt Filipe to a 2 year entry level contract. The Canes let their rights lapse yesterday.

Svech wasn’t the only casualty on Saturday. On the same play he was injured on, referee Kevin Pollock took a shot to the face. He lost a few chicklets and needed 15 stitches. it was originally though that he’d be able to continue working, but he broke his jaw. His playoffs are over, it’s a 4-6 week recovery.

Best of luck on a speedy recovery. I'll leave it at that.

Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko is leaving the bubble and returning to St. Louis to have his left shoulder evaluated. He had surgery on it in October and missed 61 games but returned to camp in July. He missed 1 round robin game and games 3 and 4 of their series with Vancouver.

IIRC they have a two day "quarantine" if he re-enters ... or is it four? Either way, that's pretty much Tarasenko done for the series even if there's nothing wrong with him. And there's clearly something wrong with him, based on the first couple of games.

It’s a 4 day quarantine. He’s done for the playoffs, ask Cal de Haan about chronic shoulder problems

Catching up with the rest of Wednesday's results ... Tampa put a stake through Columbus' heart to take that series 4-1. Colorado embarrassed Phoenix 7-1 to take that series 4-1, the Habs roared back to extend their series with Philly and Vancouver grabbed a 3-2 series lead over the defending Blues. Honestly, the only surprise there ... for me at least ... is that the Montreal/Philly game was entertaining. That's been a meat grinder of a series, but it gets fun fast when the goals start going in. Scoring is fun. Go figure.

With less games to schedule we're shifting to more night games now. NYI have a shot to kill off the Caps in the first round (again) at 8pm and the Stars and Flames will do something (I honestly don't care even a little bit about this series) at 10pm. Checks ... ooh, Dallas can end it, so go Stars.

Watching the Isles almost close out those hated Crapitals tonight and I have to hand it to Trotz, he has his team playing some great hockey and the Isles have a nice core of great young players. Barzal can deke just about anyone out of their jock strap!

The Flames won the race to 3 last night. Unfortunately, they gave up the next 7, including 4 from Denis Gurianov and the Stars closed the series out. This morning will be the longest 1 hour flight from Edmonton to Calgary in recorded history.

The Flyers will be without Matt Niskanen today against the Habs. He was suspended for a cross check to Brendan Gallagher’s face. Gallagher is also out, with a broken jaw.

Exciting, maybe not. But Trotz is a damn good coach
Trotz teams don't score a lot, but I've never really thought of them as boring. They play a high intensity game, after all. I mean, I wouldn't like it it every team in the league played that way, but I like a mix of styles.

Boy, I'll miss the Flames.

Wait. That team can suck it.

I'm happy that series is over because I have nothing for either of those teams. Dull, petulant and bland ... the pair of them. I hope Calgary does do something as stupid as trading away their best offensive player just because their idiotic media has decided that he's not old school enough for them. Team Meathead deserves nothing less.

An unpleasant post-mortem from our old friend Barry Svrluga in today’s Washington Post. He says that 2018 feels like a long time ago.

It would feel less long ago if they had a real coach. If they keep plowing forward with much the same group on the ice and that idiot Rierden behind the bench, then they deserve what they get.
