2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

So … college football has it’s finalists and it’s a Miami team that has done basically nothing for 20 years and an Indiana team that has done basically nothing in their whole football history up until last year when they stepped into the portal and came out good. People can bitch and moan about the NIL era all they want, at least it’s giving us something other than the same 5-6 teams over and over and over again.
Mark Cuban bought that championship (chance). But good on them. Cignetti brought his core group of players with him from JMU. Plus Cignetti is a helluva coach. I was hoping an ACC team was going to hire him way back before he even took the JMU job. He coached at State and His brother Frank was OC at UNC because of his nfl relationship with Bunting. I hate rooting for anything Miami football related but I want them to win for the ACC. I think I just got put on honorary parole for cheering for Miami football. 🚔

Yeah, I don’t really care either, although I could support an ACC team beating a B1G team … even if it’s … ugh … Miami.

That panthers game was great even though they lost. I have a lot of optimism for the future. Need to shore up some holes on D and get another playmaker and an oline man or 2…but I think they will be pretty good next year even with Bryce holding them back a little. Let’s see what Morgan does in the offseason And how he builds on the momentum from this year.

They are one of the youngest teams in the league and I think Canales is a really good coach. I’m actually excited for the offseason and next season for once

Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead passed away last night. In no way have I ever considered myself a deadhead because I found their live work to be boring as hell, but actually really enjoy their studio output. Whatever you think of the Dead and their followers, they made a big mark on the history of rock n roll.

Yeah, it was a step in the right direction which is about all they should have been expecting this season. Add some defensive talent in the draft, tweak the offensive skill group with some veterans and count on the young guys to keep getting better … and maybe they can win the division next year with a winning record.

I'm not a Dead Head either. I like some of their music, but don't own much personally. Saw them once & that was enough. On the other hand, my wife was a raised on the west coast, where the Dead was more part of the culture. She went to quite a few of their shows when she was in high school and owns a few of their albums. Respect to Bob Weir for making a career out of making music. RIP.

There will be no back-to-back in the NFL this year. Eagles lose to Niners 23-19 on Wild Card weekend

So far, 3 of the 4 road teams have won

With the Pats winning last night, the Bills don’t have another home game, so Highmark Stadium is done. They’re auctioning off the urinal troughs from the mens’ restrooms. Do any of the local college stadiums that use troughs need extra capacity?

I think Duke got rid of the last local trough urinals with their last stadium upgrade. Although I feel certain that there’s some rural high schools that could use the spare parts

Carolina still has a few of those god awful things. I thought State finally got rid of theirs?? My buddy passed out in some ncsu trough back in college. There is a photo somewhere lol

State hasn’t had them since the last new toilet building was added on the East side (built by yours truly) … and that was in the early 00s. I got on a run there renovating the bathrooms at Carter Finley for some stupid reason. I think there were still a couple of trough urinals in the old fieldhouse toilets left when we finished the new toilets on the East side, but they weren’t really used by the public and eventually those got rolled into the updated locker room areas under the North stands shortly thereafter.

Fun story about that toilet building … State hosted South Carolina for the home opener the season when they were completed. Lou Holtz was at South Carolina and when he came in for his presser he made a quip about the new toilet building being the only major improvement since he coached at State in the 70s. He was exaggerating of course, but it WAS before the work began to enclose the North stands and the Murphy Center was built in the South end.

I thought Kenan had phased their out, but I haven’t been there since the 90s so I wouldn’t know. Duke had a couple of the doughnut style round troughs at Wallace Wade well into the 2010s. THOSE were a delight and a half. Not only are you peeing in something that looks like it was built to feed hogs, you’re directly facing somebody on the opposite side. Rest in Hell, round hog trough urinal.

I haven’t been to the ‘public toilets’ in years since I’m down on the field shooting the game. But back in 2009 they still had some in the upper level bathrooms

Yeah, that’s the thing. Staff toilets sometimes are relics of renovations long forgotten. At Carter Finley, they let the facilities in the old fieldhouse and press tower go for like a decade after they needed ADA updates because they knew that eventually the facilities would be phased out. Most public buildings have quirks like that.
