2021 Playoff Thread | Round 1 | Habs/Leafs

Any thoughts on what should be my criteria for selecting a new team to cheer for in place of the Habs as of next season. I’m close to my breaking point.

Just step back from the NHL and just watch the playoffs unemotionally....our Hab fandom was never a choice. Praise your parents for not moving to Buffalo before you were born.

It's too bad that in our lifetime we've seen the Habs devolve from one of the smartest and most successful organizations in pro sports to one of the dumbest (Rejean Houle, Pierre Gauthier, Marc Bergevin).

May as well pick the Leafs. Their future is bright. And as much as they were a favorite to win this series, our coach is actively helping them.

Everything can be fixed with competent management. The issue is getting that.

first step; take the competition seriously and stop all the maddening delusions.

The goal should never be "get in the playoffs and see what happens" That's short term thinking and has a desperate get rich quick vibe. Hint: It rarely works out.

Take a few years to build a perennial Cup contender anchored by elite young talent, not a 33 yr old goalie who may or may not go on a hot streak.

So as it stands, our lineup for the first playoff game will include a total of 4 players that were drafted by the organization. Price, Lehkonen, Evans and Gallagher. Half of those were before The Charlatan came into power 9 years ago and the other two are fourth line players.

Preeeeeetty incredible.

And only Price is a first round pick, from 16 years ago.

Well I'm going to be giving the Kraken a try, given that I have season tickets. Can't really be worse than the Habs.

If Josh Gorges couldn't do it (and they were paying him big $$) I doubt Krusty could switch over to the Maple Leaf

Its starts with acceptance for a true rebuild

Second find that architect that knows WTF is going on and remove any language nuances or media BS

What the Leafs did is ideal but requires a shit load of luck and the right environment where the draft talent is on your side

They fuked up royally , 2016 should of been the finishing touch on the retool

But they decided to push the chips all in the poker table with Weber

it's not just the Leafs....look at the Avs, the Canes, even the goddamn Bruins have been a contender for seemingly forever now. You need some luck for everything to come together and win the Cup but the fundamentals of building the proper structure should be within reach. NO SHORTCUTS!

I hate this team. I’ve never disliked a Habs team as much as this one.
This mindset is why this team will never win anything. League has changed and we’re acting like we’re 15 years behind.

I’m sure Dwight King and Steve Or are available for tomorrow. Might as well scratch Suzuki as well

Who is a team that just got into the playoffs and went on a run? The Oilers 16 years ago?

Not many teams back their way into the playoffs, then go on a run. At some point it would be nice to aspire winning more than a round.

Hockey is the worst for short cuts ……..IMPOSSIBLE

Its not the NFL where the draft produce stars in any round and play immediately , with free agency to rebuild or add anything you want

Its a painful process but if not done right …..there is no hope

yeah....and the NHL draft is a hot mess.
'
Even with a top 3 pick...you end up with a Galchenyuk who is still the 2nd highest point producer from his draft class.

The league has changed. Your best players can be your youngest.

Playing safe hockey doesn’t work. You have to live with the mistakes your young players make. Staal may make fewer mistakes, but he’s not going to do much to help you win, he only maybe helps you not lose

You'll likely feel a soft spot for them like I have for the Panthers but it'll always be Habs, hate to tell you that.

Blues is about the only one I can remember, but they were already super hot in the second half of the season.

I can easily explain why Caufield won't play, a lot less for KK, but I kinda get it even though I don't agree with it.

Romanov, though...

What an interesting contrast from a few months ago when they were hyping Romanov up.
to me romanov is the easiest scratch
he has not been good and his upside this year is very limited

kk can get hot
caufield can get hot

but really the team should be going with the young players not shit like staal and merrill
