2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Brad Marchand will play tonight, about 1 month ahead of schedule. He had hip surgery in May with an expected recovery time of 6 months and was hoping to return around Thanksgiving. He won’t play in back to back games for a while, according to coach Jim Montgomery.

After spending their first 6 games on the road, the Coyotes finally play at the unfortunately named Mullett Arena. They get 4 straight at home, tonight, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and then don’t get another home game for 34 days, playing 14 road games before returning home to face the Bruins on December 9. Much has been written about the 5,000 seat capacity, but it’s probably lower than that for Yotes games. TV and media will take over 2 luxury suites. The lowest ticket price for tonight are resale seats in one of the Standing room sections for $95. If you want to sit, that will cost you $120. There are a few box office tickets left, I found a single in the shoot once corner for $229, a couple on the glass behind the benches for $480 and a couple a few rows back from the glass for $441.

Also, per The Athletic, the locker rooms aren't done yet, and won't be until December.

The Arizona Coyotes arena deal in Tempe appears to be headed to a referendum to be held some time in 2023. The owner says the timeline is still 23-24 months from when the first shovel hits the ground. Polls indicate strong support among voters.

It looks like the Preds’ sale to former Tennessee governor Bill Haslam is moving along. He’ll make 4 payments which puts the franchise value somewhere between $775 - 900 million, with the last payment coming in 2025. The Net Present Value of the 4 payments is about $775 million, which would make it the 2nd highest sale, behind the Pens sale to Fenway Sports Group last Year.

Haslam’s brother Jimmy owns the Cleveland Browns and Columbus Crew.

Sportico reports that the family of late Sens owner Eugene Melnyk has retained a bank to explore the sale of the team. The Sens are currently valued at $655 million.

Love seeing a Canes sweater behind the glass on the penguins brooins game. Even if it’s a McGinn 23 so probably really just a pens fan but still cool.

Is Erik Karlsson drinking from the Fountain of Youth? He had a 4 point night against the Ducks that included a hat trick. He has 9 goals for the season, 1 fewer than he had all of last season in 50 games. He hasn’t had more than 10 goals in a season since 2016-17.

It was a great night of hockey all around the NHL last night. Zona beat Florida. Seattle beat Calgary. Pittsburgh blew a 3 goal lead with 8 mins left in the 2nd period and the unstoppable Boston Bruins beat them in OT. The Rangers and Flyers both went scoreless for 3 periods, with the Rangers winning in OT.

While Erik Karlsson turns back the clock with his 9 goals in just 12 games, Connor McDavid is making us wonder what is possible with his 11 goals and 11 assists in just 10 games start.

We certainly helped McDavid out, he had a 4 point night against us, 1 goal, 3 assists.

Penguins blew another lead last night. 3-1 Pens lead early in the 3rd and then Buffalo scored FIVE goals to win 6-3. That was the night after blowing a 3 goal lead to Bruins and losing in OT 6-5.

On the one hand, Boston and Buffalo are leading the East in goals scored so far so getting lit up by them isn't that humiliating. On the other, Pittsburgh has allowed 41 freaking goals against. They're one bad night from averaging 4 goals against per game. That's, umm ... bad.
