2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Leafs got hosed on that lame explanation by the league on the no goal call. The NHL essentially said the ref can deem the play dead whenever he wants to even if his whistle is not blown…so if you don’t blow the whistle how is the play ever dead, especially when the puck clearly was across the line. They grey is everywhere on that call…if no whistle then what’s to say it wasn’t in or it wasn’t in before the play was blown dead??? 🤣

“The call was made in accordance to Rule 78.5 (xii), which states apparent goals shall be disallowed "when the referee deems the play has stopped, even if he had not physically had the opportunity to stop play by blowing his whistle.”

Lots of Panthers with ties to the Canes. The tweeter forgot about Alex Lyon. But the most surprising thing is the last one on the list.

the disputed goal (which I think they got right).
If you allow refs to just use that excuse they can use it on anything and just say fuck it I meant to blow my whistle…that’s as lame as it gets, it’s taking the rules right out if it and saying we reserve the right to just say we meant to stop play or we meant to blow the whistle…when a puck is clearly across the line it should only be one of two things…blown dead by a whistle stopping play or the play wasn’t over did it cross the line!

It’s not an excuse, it’s baked right into the rule. Don’t like it? Dubas can ask the competition committee to review it.

How long are you going to let the play continue? 10 seconds? 30 seconds? 1 minute? At some point the play is over. Cam Ward “gave up” a goal when the puck was lodged in his pads. No one saw where the puck was, but his leg went behind the goal line. The puck eventually dropped out and after review, the refs awarded a goal. But it was a good 15 seconds after everyone stopped playing.

A brain dead play by Keegan Kolesar hands the Oilers a 5 minute power play on fresh ice to start the 3rd.
