Our success rate with NCAA goalies recently is not good. Jack LaFontaine (no longer Canes property) is in the ECHL now and has gone for 3.83 GAA and .851 Sv% so far this season.

And then there is Jacob Kucharski. As a pro so far, between 1 disaster of a start in Chicago last season and 3 appearances in the ECHL for Reading this season, his combined stats as a pro are 1-1-1 6.19 GAA .820 Sv% .

I don't know how Kochetkov is going to end up, but beyond him we have nothing but a bunch of real longshots in terms of players we have draft rights to. Our general aversion to North American goalie prospects is interesting to me.

Yeah, I kind of get why the Canes shied away from the high end NA goalie prospects in the draft, at least ... since the results have been kind of all over the place. Of the higher end prospects in the last 10 drafts, only Demko, Oettinger, Knight, Blackwood and Hart have really amounted to much and that's being pretty generous to Knight and Blackwood. And pretty much all of them were over-slotted in their draft year compared to results. The Canes have changed a bit recently, in taking the odd swing at undrafted college goalies and that might carry forward. That can be a source of depth if nothing else.

How can the canes do that?
Just because the Wolves aren’t affiliated with the Canes anymore doesn’t prevent them from assigning a player there. They’re basically in the position of having to negotiate separate loan deals for every player with every AHL team. The Wolves are desperate for players, they suck this year and they know Ponomarev from the last 2 years.

Tony Androckitis tweeted thst he’s hearing the Canes and Wolves are working on sending more players to Chicago. Domenick Fensore, Griffin Mendel and Ronan Seeley were specifically mentioned.

Wanna bet that Suzuki gets sent there too?

Ponomarev had a goal and an assist today. And the Hummus King became the 26th player in AHL history to get 700 points.

They can certainly use him. Have you seen that roster? Ugh.

Rocco Grimaldi is the leading scorer and Chris Terry is right behind. Ugh indeed.
Both reliable AHL point producers, but yeah, old, slow and just ... ugh. And the rest of that roster is just dreck. Their big goalie free agent was Keith Kinkaid for crying out loud ... and Cory freaking Conacher is about a hundred years old. What on earth was the point of going Indy if this was all you were going to cobble together?

Not to state the obvious, but maybe they don’t have a clue?
