2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

Good. With Pesce back I can stop holding my breath for the entirety of DeAngelo's shifts.

Also, I'd keep Orlov up with Skjei. Having his point shot on the ice for an extra 4-5 shifts is a big deal in a tight game and with the way Pesce has been playing this year, you're not losing anything in your own zone really.

I fully endorse that plan...Orlov deserves that second pairing slot and he has looked really good there in limited chances. Pesce on a third pairing is perfectly slotted with the year he has had.

i don’t think Pesce has played much on his off side. If you noticed, DeAngleo was on his off side when paired with Chatfield, so Chatty would probably have to move left. He's done it before, but it’s a concern.

Chatfield is pretty comfy on the weaker side ... and Orlov might actually be better on the right, as he seems to get more clear angles for that point shot on that side. Plus, since Carolina largely plays man to man in the D zone, it's less of a concern than in most systems.

I feel the same way every time he steps on the ice. Remarkably, he hasn't been awful. But he also hasn't been good.
He had two moronic d-zone turnovers against the Avs but was better against NJ ... when he only had one.

The Canes have partnered with bars across the state, and 1 in SC, guaranteed to show all games, home and away. The team has provided the bars with Canes swag to “enhance the viewing experience”. This is separate from the Cools Bars, which are exclusive to the Carolina Ale House.

22 has cost himself a lot of money this season.

Umm ... OK. This is needed why exactly?
Even Carolina Ale House has to be asked to put the Canes on the TV when they are not hosting the Watch Parties. Other places in Wake county act like they don't know what Hockey is. Maybe this will spur a handful of them to care about the Canes.

Someone is still going to sign Pesce for at least $6 million AAV. It will not be the Canes.
Absolutely ... and given how entrenched that Skjei/Pesce pairing has become on the lineup card, that probably won't be a bad thing in the grand scheme. Pesce's minutes and usage certainly haven't reflected his dip in performance, which now well past the slump stage and well into being a persistent problem. It's just a matter of scale. With Carolina's D corps, they can get by with one guy having a rough season ... so long as it's just one guy.

Speaking of getting paid, our old friend Noah Hanifin is still deciding to either stay in Calgary on an extension or do the rental trade route and test the free agent waters this summer. Hanifin probably slots a bit ahead of Pesce in terms of money/term at only 27 years of age even though Pesce is a right shot guy. The rumor had Calgary's earlier offer at $60M over 8 for Hanifin.

If you have the extra time while in Las Vegas, I highly encourage folks to spend copious amounts of quality time at the Pinball Hall of Fame and Omega Mart. Both places are 100% worth your time and money spent there.

Even better…take an e-bike tour of Red Rock Canyon…best thing I’ve ever done on my many visits to Vegas.
