2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

Man, every game in this series was always going to be a dogfight and nothing much has changed. Aside from Carolina's first period in game one and NYR's third period in game five, there's been the skinniest of margins separating these two. Anybody spinning anything other than that is full of crap.

BTW ... caught up on Brind'Amour and Waddell's season ending interviews with Ovies and Giglio and while 90% of Rod's stuff you could have filled out in advance, Donny did add a few tidbits of note. So go listen if you want, but one thing I've not seen elsewhere is a building renovation update. The only thing that's really happening this summer is that the locker rooms are going to be gutted and upgraded again. It was time and the design work was already done, and that's ready to go. Pretty much everything else going on in the short term is design related since they had to start over with a new design team. He also mentioned that they'll be meeting with City/State/County officials to make headway on how to improve roadway access to account for the additional/different traffic flow caused by the additional facilities.

Also, Aho's getting married in Finland and it sounds like the boys are making a trip out of it. Donny basically issued a PSA to the entire country since they're going to get two weeks of Jarvis.

And I'm not plugging anything really but Ovies and Giglio's podcast is a pretty good source of discussion/info during the season.

Felix Unger Sorum and Sweden win the Bronze at the World Championships, beating Canada 4-2. Necas and Czechia play Switzerland for the gold later.

The Canes were shut out of an award again. Anders Lee won the King Clancy. Jaccob Slavin was the Canes nominee.

Cory Lavalette has an interview with Eric Tulsky at The Athletic today. He’ll have an interview with Darren Yorke tomorrow. It looks like Waddell’s “we like out team” permeates the organization.

So if you don’t get this position, you don’t feel that changes your relationship with the team or that you need to go somewhere else or anything?
Of course not. I have a good job. I like where I am. I like what I’m doing. Whatever happens will be fine.

Tulsky is a data geek working in an organization that not only values that, but makes it part of their core decision making process. Of course he's happy. There's maybe two other teams that integrate analytics in their process as deeply as the Canes do. In nearly every other organization guys like Tulsky have to be part evangelist, and also get to be the automatic scapegoat when things go wrong ... not everybody is cut out for that.

And Francis already has Alex Mandrycky on his staff.

When the Canes brass used to sit in a box below our seats, we saw an unfamiliar face pop up. So my friend asked her ticket rep who it was. He said it was Darren Yorke who he described as “Ron's data guy”.
