2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

It’s funny that we laugh at the Brits for having Royalty

Absurdly expensive. Creating our own class of royalty based on our lack of discipline to not spend money we shouldn’t on concerts and sporting events etc. Pretty hard to justify spending that much on entertainment and it keeps going up.
I mean, personally I laugh at the Brits for having their specific royalty ... all of whom seem to be pinheads bar Prince William*

*he's a fellow Aston Villa fan so I'm obligated to give him a break

Canes in-game host Meghan Lamontagne has a new gig. She’s hosting on MIX 101.5 from 10-3 weekdays.

The Canes had interesting travel from Minneapolis. They got to the hotel in Columbus around 3 am and then had a tornado warning siren just before 6. But they’re practicing now.

The Centennial Authority has chosen to bring in Gensler/LS3P to be the new design team for the arena updates.

Possibly just biased, but I didn't think TMobile Arena was all that much better than PNC Arena. I hated the smaller scoreboard. I liked having more space in the walkways at TMobile. I also liked that the lower level armrests could be lifted up.

I was disappointed. It was OK, nothing more. Where were the cup holders? And the beer selection, at least near 225 where we sat, left something to be desired.

If Raanta is still too injured to play he will likely swap IR spots with Freddie when Freddie is activated. Otherwise Raanta will get waived again.

Then the next question will be 'Is Freddie going to be sent on a conditioning stint?' He does need to be activated from IR first before he would be eligible for a conditioning stint.

Then the final question is 'How do the Canes handle 3 goalies?' We have PK who has mostly been above average for almost 2 months, and Spencer Martin who has done way more than anyone could have hoped. Freddie can be eased back into things but what exactly does that look like?

I do expect Carolina to carry 3 goalies on the big club's roster and I expect Martin to be one of them. Raanta should be the man out, as even when he's been healthy enough to play, he's been all over the place this season. Martin has been the very picture of consistency since he got here. That's 100% what you want for your backup's backup.

Again I appreciate the Canes willingness to kick the tires on just about anything.
How seemingly a non-Hurricane type move. They're usually pretty tight with the purse strings before the deadline. I know they're not looking for a rental, especially and over-paid one. It would be interesting to see a scoring threat added to the mix though. It wouldn't hurt if KK could become a more consistent threat to score.

That adds an AAV of just $687,500 to the Canes and drops our 'AAV room' from around $5.6 million to around $4.9 million. That is how much in a full season AAV we could add (without subtracting any AAVs as part of a trade). As for cash expense, we spent around $175k to buy a 6th round pick.

I don't think this trade impacts anything the Canes might want to do.
