We also gave up the signing rights for Kirill Slepets to TOR in the deal.
Meh.

Like giving up the rights to Patrik Puistola (who is finally having a decent season in Liiga) to get Puljujarvi. That makes it an even better deal as I can stop tracking Kirill Slepets every week. He isn't ever going to be a North American pro at any level.
“No Thrill Kirill” as opposed to the Wilds Kirill the Thrill???That makes it an even better deal as I can stop tracking Kirill Slepets every week. He isn't ever going to be a North American pro at any level.
Agree but why would we agree to help Toronto for a pick that will most likely never materialize into anything? That adds an AAV of just $687,500 to the Canes and drops our 'AAV room' from around $5.6 million to around $4.9 million. That is how much in a full season AAV we could add (without subtracting any AAVs as part of a trade). As for cash expense, we spent around $175k to buy a 6th round pick.
I don't think this trade impacts anything the Canes might want to do.
A draft pick is an asset. Whether it gets used or traded, it’s an asset to the organization. It also buys some goodwill with 2 general managers for helping to facilitate a trade.Agree but why would we agree to help Toronto for a pick that will most likely never materialize into anything?
Future Considerations is still more popular with the fans than Retained Salary. He’s played for every team and keeps fans hoping for a huge breakout season. This is a great pick up. The Canes had been scouting Retained Salary for a while now. He should really solidify the top 6, bring some offensive punch, and boost PP2. Looking forward to seeing Retained Salary at PNC tomorrow. I read that some fans might be greeting him at the airport.
But the less said about poor ol' Bag O'Pucks the better. That guy has been kicked around the league for years.Future Considerations is still more popular with the fans than Retained Salary. He’s played for every team and keeps fans hoping for a huge breakout season.
You beat me to it!!!But the less said about poor ol' Bag O'Pucks the better. That guy has been kicked around the league for years.
You are assuming that Lyubushkin actually helps the Leafs? His metrics have him as one of the worst Dmen in the league I believe so I'm not really sure we actually helped the Leafs.Agree but why would we agree to help Toronto for a pick that will most likely never materialize into anything?
Toronto moved heaven and earth to get a penalty prone warm body who may actually make them worse. Why wouldn't the Canes try to get something out of that if they could?Agree but why would we agree to help Toronto for a pick that will most likely never materialize into anything?
This is one thing that TMobile arena has over PNC that I did like. The areas where the food options were had ample bump out space for those areas. It felt roomier along the walkways as a result....The only thing I saw that was a new idea in the coverage was a proposal to add "wings" on the East and West sides to expand public space. .....
Yep, in the 200 level, there was a sizable full service bar near our section. There were a lot of people getting cocktails and they take longer than drawing a beer so the line moves slower and can stack up. But the concourse never felt crowed like PNC can. And they had adjacent seating areas, much bigger than the bars at PNC on the lower and upper concourses. This is one thing that TMobile arena has over PNC that I did like. Yeah. It's hard to really visualize just how much of the public space is taken up with the entrance ways and escalators and stairs. Bumping that stuff out away from the body of the concourse will open up a lot of real estate for other things. It also allows for "normal" operations while you basically build an adjacent structure, so you could do that work while the building is still in use. That's a big plus for this kind of renovation. It's really, really tough to do any major work between the end of the season and the start of camp ... especially if the season deep into the playoff schedule. This is one thing that TMobile arena has over PNC that I did like. That's my concern. Sounds like too much to do in too little time. It's really, really tough to do any major work between the end of the season and the start of camp ... especially if the season deep into the playoff schedule.
Again, by moving a major amount of the new work outside of the existing footprint of the building (adding "wings" on the East and West sides) that takes away much of that concern. That's my concern. Sounds like too much to do in too little time.
Looks like the Arena Authority has selected their new architectural and design team for the PNC Arena renovations. Gensler is a multi-national big boy design firm. They've done a fair amount of arena and stadium renovation work and did the design work for Staples/Crypto in LA and the new Chase Center in San Francisco. LS3P will be their local partner. The only thing I saw that was a new idea in the coverage was a proposal to add "wings" on the East and West sides to expand public space. Gensler have also done some really nice work in mid-sized soccer venues. They did Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego and Q2 Stadium in Austin, and I'm a fan of both.
