2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

Luke AdeCock says that Pesce is on the ice today with last night’s 4th line, the Black Aces and Kochetkov. I doubt that means he’ll play tomorrow, but you never know.

I can be in NY in 3 hours, and I have a pulse; so I'm at least as good as TA., plus I have a functioning brain so I think I win.

Not much new stuff out of Rod's presser today. Apparently there were no new injuries, which is good news given the abuse Drury took last night if nothing else. Otherwise, lots of talk about the line between adjustments and trusting your guys. Y'all have all heard enough on that front, I'd think.

Speaking of Drury, he deserves massive props for his forecheck that led to Martinook's goal last night. Watch the highlight; it's a textbook example of how to create scoring opportunities through forechecking.

He played a wonderful 3rd period and both Drury and Martinook finally seemed to get the memo that they have to MOVE in order to let Necas really have an impact. Both of them had been parking near the crease hoping for rebounds and deflections off long Necas shots, but long shots are too easy to block and Necas ended up trying to slalom around too many bodies. Last night we FINALLY got some cycle action and general rotation off the puck from those two. It made a huge difference in the general look of their zone time. I was glad they got rewarded with a goal, but just jacking up their possession time was big step towards impacting the game.

Yeah, and it wasn't even really a physical forecheck by Drury there, just worked the puck away from Elbow.

Yeah, Drury's good at using his body without throwing hits. He gets his hips in there and locks guys out and then gets on with life. He's pesky.

Wait! What? I thought we already won the series. At least that’s what the Ranger fans were saying. 😄
Direct quote from a Rangers fan loudmouth as I stepped between him and the Canes fan he was trying to goad into a fight after Game 4 ... "you're celebrating like you won something. All you won was a chance to get your asses beat in the GAHden." And look, for all I know he's Carnac the Great's long lost grandson and Carolina will eventually lose Game 7 at MSG. I know two things for sure about the playoffs ... you don't win a series without winning four games and only suckers care about how you win those 4 games.

Blame Caitlin Clarke and the Fever
They played last night. ESPN doesn’t have any basketball today. But the Dallas Stars are at home tonight at 8 so they can’t have a double header with an eastern time zone game. The game tomorrow is on TNT and they have the NBA tonight.

Maybe just don't blame anybody? Carolina needed the day off yesterday to get Freddie some recovery time.

Reading a lot of sky-is-falling panic from NY and some overly confident testimonials from Raleigh (not in this forum) regarding tomorrow's game and the series. I think tomorrow will be a real dogfight, with the Rangers eager to put their poor 3rd period performance behind them. I'm naturally skittish about any important game, so I hope the Canes bring it tomorrow. Then, I can then worry about Game 7.
