2023-24 NHL Misc. Thread

The return for Mantha is a 2024 2nd rounder and a 2026 4th rounder. And, having put Mark Stone on LTIR again, Vegas has plenty of cap room.

The cap gymnastics by Vegas pays off again…Stone should be ready and feeling great for playoff game one…that’s what the doctors say! 🤣

Honestly, Stone is the issue as much as the team is. Dude gets hurt every freaking year. And who really cares for Anthony freaking Mantha anyway? He's one of those guys who looks imposing but never really does anything.

Stone has a lacerated spleen, a little different than the normal hockey injury. But to your other point, he’s played a full season exactly 0 times. The closest he came was in the 56 game Covid season, 2020-21, he missed 1 game. He missed 2 games in his first full NHL season, 2014-15.

Panthers sign dman Gustav Forsling to an 8 year extension with $5.75 million AAV.
That is an amazing story!!! Never give up kids...never give up the dream, guy was waived by two teams including the Canes and gets a top pairing D gig on a contender and an eight year extension for $46 million! What a great way to persevere.

Carolina liked him, but not well enough to displace other guys they also liked. His growth after he found a spot in Florida is impressive, but he was always just a step away before he got there.

Good value wish we still had him
They wouldn't still have him either way because he wouldn't have displaced Slavin or Skjei and would have bailed for a better chance at ice time by now.

The left side coming out of camp for 2020-21 was Slavin, Skjei and Gardiner. What we didn’t know was that Gardiner would only play 26 of 56 games. He played the first 15 games, missed 2, came back for 1, missed 5, played 1, missed 15, played 2, missed 2, played 6, missed 6, played 1. His last game was Nashville game 2 in the playoffs, he missed the first game, played the 2nd and missed the rest of that series and the entire Tampa series.

And that team still had Bean and Fleury on the left. Not that they were particularly good but they were homegrown and going to get chances. That was the "why have 7 NHL D when you can have 10" period.

Umm ... Wes McCauley and Torts had a night last night. You guys know that my patience for Torts' act is long gone, but from what I saw the Flyers got comprehensively screwed by McCauley and that coward wouldn't even skate over to talk to the bench after he threw the coach out of the game. He should 100% be facing some sort of discipline for that performance.

Meanwhile, in the NBA, Rudy Gobert is $100k lighter for making a non-bird gesture to a ref. LOL

Yeah, that was his 4th offense for criticism of the refs, but still, this is hilarious. A hundred grand! And in the NHL, Gord Hansen chopped the head off of Hansen Gord, using the victim's own stick, in center ice, but since it was Gord's first offense, he will be fined only $1000 and will have to do shots with the office of player safety at a local Hooters.

Someone stop those Islanders! They look like a team that actually *wants* to make the playoffs now. All thanks to Philly wanting to be a performance of The Aristocrats instead of a being an NHL team.
