The lack of useful trade pieces that Dallas would be willing to part with is why I would be more interested in futures from them which we could try to trade to someone else.

Do the Canes try to get Mason Marchment after he left the Canes at the UFA alter a few years ago? We won't know if we are on his 10 team no trade list.

If he wants well more than that…. Based on the fact that he has sucked away from Mac he’s like to be disappointed. His option is to play balls out for the Canes. Be surprised if anyone wants to go 14 for him now. Drama queen.

In the end I think the Canes are going to dodge yet another bullet by not having Mikko Rantanen agree to a contract with us for over $100 million.
LAST year we courted disaster by flirting with acquiring Elias Pettersson, who we also would have paid over $100 million to. He showed his true colors in the playoffs last season and is just a complete mess this season (year 1 of his 8 year $11.6 AAV contract).

Eventually the Canes are going to succeed in acquiring and keeping a superstar beyond part of a season. Hopefully it's the right superstar who actually produces like a superstar.
