Fair on all accounts, on the surface Tulsky will get slammed but in hindsight could be a blessing in disguise...if I guy does not want to sign here what are you going to do? Necas was never staying here, are the Canes going to be in the offer sheet business this summer wielding extra picks and oodles of cap space!

I mean, that could be a lot worse?

A day later tomorrow it certainly would have been...he was not signing here when all the dust settled.
 
You don't want to be saddled with Draisaitl level contract for a guy who will never reach those numbers. But you also can't keep swinging and missing on trades. But getting away from Rantanen isn't a bad thing.

Guentzel was a pure rental that we hoped to be able to extend. We rented and didn’t win the cup. That’s not a miss on the trade. Rantanan was a big swing. The miss was he didn’t want to be here. Not sure how you’d expect that. A guy holding out for money. We get him. We offer money and all the sudden it’s not just money.
 
The one noteworthy thing in all of this is the increasing amount of cap space and spending power headed into the summer...if Rants was offered $13.25 or so to stay and that's all out of the window now it's back to the drawing board for the Canes on how to spend all that available space...still lots of opportunity to rework this roster without tearing it down.
 
Why hasn't this trade been officially announced yet? Neither the Canes nor the Stars have the news on their site so far.
 
I still think GMET has at least one more deal in him before this all closes out at 3pm...a center sure would be nice.

Breaking...Rickard Rakell apparently incoming...
