2024 Draft

Silayev is a lock, and I would think Levshunov would go as well. Maybe someone reaches for Dickinson as well.

Demidov as F seems like a sure top 5 pick as well.

With Chicago, SJ, Anaheim and CBJ all going forwards last year, I could easily see 2 of the non-1OA teams going for D.

There's nothing very complicated about fascism or homophobia. Despite this, a lot of people don't seem to understand that dealing with those things is just as simple. You oppose it. You fight it. You defeat it. It only becomes complicated when you normalize it or rationalize it.
All or nothing, black and white thinking from any side of an issue doesn't help. And IMO only increases the numbers of radicals on both ends of the spectrum and cements extremism and leads to the decay of democracy.

Not really the best thread to discuss these important issues. But I was in a very long term common law relationship with a born and bred Russian woman, and we had many close friends both Russian and Ukrainian. From what I could tell, it isn't so cut and dry.

Cheers.

life is not as manichean as many think

how exactly are you fighting it? Posting on X and webboards isn't really fighting the issue,,,
What can I say? Not all heroes wear capes.

To start with, I don't cast my vote based on which party is more likely to lower my taxes. I vote based on which party isn't trying to impose Christofascism in place of representative democracy. I vote for parties that don't think Covid and climate change are "hoaxes" or parties who support inbred hillbillies taking over the nation's capital for a 3 week white grievance jamboree. And I don't pussy out and say that "They're both bad so I'm staying home on election day" because they aren't both bad. One of them is objectively worse than the other and needs to be repudiated at the ballot box. I fight it by joining a political party and donating to it and encouraging others to do likewise because it matters. I vote for the party that supports the Ukraine in its fight against totalitarianism. I don't vote for parties which simp for Putin and vote to cut off Ukrainian aid.

And while I personally am far too old, too out of shape and too blind without my $2500 specialized contact lenses that I could never wear into combat to physically go to war, I sleep soundly at night knowing that I have a nephew serving in the Canadian Navy and of course your son ready to fight and die for freedom on the Ukrainian steppe. I thank him for his inevitable service.

When your country is invaded by it's exponentially larger neighbor it's pretty cut and dried if you ask me. You kill the orcs. As Winston Churchill said, "You don't negotiate with a tiger while your head is in its mouth."

slacktivism 101

What would you suggest I do, realistically? Run for office? A waste of time and money in this hillbilly province so I donate monthly to help keep Poilievre out of power nationally.
yes run, who cares if you lose, put your name out there in your low tax province. Take to the streets, protest outside the Russian embassy, create a podcast called old white guys against fascism etc
