2024 NHL Playoffs Thread

I laugh at how Timmins "wanted" both after the fact. 2003 was just as bad
It has been confirmed by other sources. Regardless, both picks were on him. There was a huge heated debate between Giroux and Fisher, which was won by the Minny scout. And then the draft after they felt the pressure of the draft in Montreal and the recent US high school picks not panning (Fisher and ironically Pacioretty and McDonagh), that made them sway for the local guy. Had we drafted Giroux, that pressure would have not been there (as much).

the other sources were his minions like Grunt were they not?

Iirc, he stated he wanted Giroux but thought he would get him later, a stupid view obviously. As for the other one, he said he felt pressured.

He is the type that always wanted the credit but never the blame. That is how he survived 3 regimes in Montreal, he like a cockroach would have survived the asteroid explosion

I'm not trying to make excuses for Timmins, he made those picks. I'm willing to accept that they were debating the other guys but ultimately, they made the wrong picks.

That minny scout who advocated for Fisher must have made quite the argument….

That inability to accept blame or admit to being wrong must have been what attracted him to McCagg.

Pat Westrum was a family friend, which any sane person would have recognized the conflict of interest and lack of objectivity. How Westrum didn't lose his job over it is beyond comprehension.

Vaughn Karpan - presently AGM w VGK

Re: Fisher
Gainey had apparently given marching orders to the scouts he wanted a RDman w 2006 draft because the prospect pipeline was bare…

Unfortunately 2006 was a horrible draft cuvee for Dman

Beyond comprehension? In hockey?

How did Bergevin wind up hiring JJ Daigneualt as an assistant coach instead of Larry Robinson? JJ was in Bergy's Old Boys Club, that's how. If you played junior in the old hood and could lob f-bombs, you got hired.

Daigneault was the second best player in the 77-78 Pee Wee Ville Emard Hurricanes, Bergevin was 3rd
