Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season
He's up there too, along with Plante.
From everything I've read, because I'm way too young to have seen some of the older goalies like Plante/Sawchuk/Dryden/Durnan/etc, I would probably have Plante/Sawchuk at 3/4 or 4/3 and Glenn Hall at 5.
My reasoning for Hasek as #1 is simple, nobody ever came close to dominating his position like he did during that 8 year span. Only 6 goalies in NHL history have won the Hart, Hasek is the only one who won it twice. Only Plante (7) has more Vezina's, and Bill Durnan ties him with 6.
If someone were to tell me that Plante is the best ever, I don't think I'd have much of an issue with it. When it comes to who's better between Plante & Sawchuk, they're pretty much interchangeable. Both have three 1st team All Star, both have four 2nd team all star. Sawchuk has the second most shutouts in NHL history, Plante revolutionized the game with his playing the puck & wearing a mask.
No consideration for Sawchuk?
