Around The League: 2016-17 Playoffs

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

No consideration for Sawchuk?

He's up there too, along with Plante.

From everything I've read, because I'm way too young to have seen some of the older goalies like Plante/Sawchuk/Dryden/Durnan/etc, I would probably have Plante/Sawchuk at 3/4 or 4/3 and Glenn Hall at 5.

My reasoning for Hasek as #1 is simple, nobody ever came close to dominating his position like he did during that 8 year span. Only 6 goalies in NHL history have won the Hart, Hasek is the only one who won it twice. Only Plante (7) has more Vezina's, and Bill Durnan ties him with 6.

If someone were to tell me that Plante is the best ever, I don't think I'd have much of an issue with it. When it comes to who's better between Plante & Sawchuk, they're pretty much interchangeable. Both have three 1st team All Star, both have four 2nd team all star. Sawchuk has the second most shutouts in NHL history, Plante revolutionized the game with his playing the puck & wearing a mask.

Been watching hockey since about 1972. Hasek is the best goalie I've ever seen.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

I also think that Hasek is the best of all time, by a mile.

The Vezina pre-1981 don't count as much for me as they were awarded automatically to the starting goaltender of the team with the fewest goals allowed, the equivalent of the Jennings now.

Good call on Durnan too. Played for 7 years, won the Vezina 6 times and was named first all star team six times as well. Pretty incredible. Even was captain for a season.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

you can't compare goalies from different era's , equipment, the game, etc have all changed, could Roy / Hasek, play as good in the 50's and 60's with that equipment and vice versa, . Hardware I suppose is a reasonable argument , however, when there are only 6 teams, your odds of winning trophies increases.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

calling a hockey player a scumbag for his hockey skills or iq is one thing, but calling a person a scumbag for cheating and not knowing the facts is being a "scumbag" yourself to a lessor degree. There are many reasons why men/women cheat and there are always two sides to the story, people shouldn't judge other peoples "personal" lives on hearsay.. just saying

Cheating on a wife is a scum bag move. Doing it with a relative (her brother's wife) is slimy and shitty.

If its over... tell her its over.

Cheating is bullshit.... sorry. Not gonna agree with you on this one.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

I am 55 years old, I have seen many friends who have divorced for all kinds of reasons, nothing surprises me, so who am I to judge the reasons why.

I didn't say people who get divorced are scumbags.

I said cheating.... ie. your are still married to your wife, she doesn't know anything about it, and you go sleep with someone else.

If you guys are separated or divorced... thats different., but doing it while still married like Brodeur did.... scumbag.

What if your wife had an identical twin sister who pretended to be her and joined you in the shower while you had soap in your eyes? Pretty sure I saw that one on TV once, although the guy who claimed not to be able to tell the difference between his spouse and her sister looked pretty weak when trying to explain himself.

Was that "TV" or porn?

A man is only as faithful as his options.

I agree cheating is not a cool thing to do, however shit happens, and it happens for different reasons, your still wet behind the ears, give it another decade when people in your sphere of influences get caught cheating I hope you show them a bit of compassion instead of being so judgemental and holier than thou.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

Im a.family law lawyer... I think I have plenty of experience with people being caught cheating

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

You don't need to be old as dirt to know people who have cheated. I still don't think it's right, even if it's a friend that's done it.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

Johney Bower was a huge clutch goalie in the 60s who doesn't get a lot of mention usually. I was young, but I put him ahead of Hall, Sawchuk, Plante and Worsely in that decade at least. And certainly there with Roy and the others all time.

The guy made this child cry a few times.

Humans are not programmed to be with only one person. I agree with Le there are many reasons it is done. It is not for us to judge.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

Why should I care if Marty is a scumbag? He was a great goalie. That's all that I, as a non-family member or friend of his or the people involved in the wife-swap, need to be concerned with as a hockey fan. And it's not like he killed someone, like OJ.

I'm with you on this. That was pretty low of Brodeur.

Re: Around The League: 2013 - 2014 Season

He married her and he's still with her though. Sometimes love strikes at the most unexpected places. He'd be a bigger scumbag if he had just cheated with her but obviously there was more to it.

Must have some awkward family gatherings. Yikes!
