Around the League: 2019-2020 Regular Season

Lost both Hainsey and Beauchemin on waivers in the span of a year, that made a huge difference on our potential defense for many years.

He wasn't exiled, he developed slowly and lacked maturity in his younger years, and then we sloppily lost him on waivers because of the damn awful re-entry waivers rule when we were injury ravaged on defense.

Well, he was kind of exiled. We kept holding on to progress stoppers like Dandenault,Bouillon, Dykhuis, who the team thought were better than they were. He and Beauchemin should never of gone on waivers. Kind of funny-he had a much better career than Komisarek as it turns out. He was kind of forgotten after Komisarek came in. Different league then of course, before the lockout/crackdown on obstruction.

Hainsey needed much development, and Beauchemin was developing nicely. Hainsey stupidly list both, Beauchemin during the lockout on a technicality, and MacLean not following gentlemen agreements. Hainsey had a god awful camp that year and started in the minors and nobody claimed him. And got better in the minors that year and was ready for call up but back then the league had a rule requiring team to submit call ups on re-entry waivers as well so he got snatched before he had his true chance with us.

I also remember the drama he had with his landlord in Quebec where he trashed the house he was renting. He was nicknamed "superstar" as he had a huge ego and poor maturity. Some guys just are slower to mature and develop.

Subban's season hasn't changed my opinion on the trade one bit. Subban was the better defenseman over Weber in 2 of the 3 years he was in Nashville and the second his play dipped, Poile got rid of him without taking any salary in return. His handling of Subban was a masterclass in terms of asset management. So Subban was the superior player for the majority of the time and Nashville saw increased team success as they won more rounds with Subban in the lineup than all of Weber's years there combined.

It has, however, made me re-evaluate who has the shittier contract. Weber's contract is still terrible, but it's questionable as to whether Subban can even play anymore. I'm probably a little naive, but I just don't think he wants to play in New Joizy. I get the feeling he'd want to be on a winning team. I don't understand how his play could have so drastically fallen off, unless he's simply not able to workout as much or as hard from the time he was in his mid-20s.

Barbiero also

We seem to have lost a few "slow maturing" guys. I often wondered what kinds of supports were in place and how much insight we had in dealing with them. Some of them had real talent. Ribiero,Kostytsyns, Hainsey, probably others.

Maybe every team does.

Not every player is suited for every market especially young players with a propensity for loving the high life.... fans don’t like hearing that but it’s a fact. No one gave a rats ass about Hainsey in CLT, which played a part (perhaps a huge part) in his development growth.

Barbiero also

Please stop. It's like when someone brought up Sven Andrighetto as players we threw away.

Barbiero was able to play on Colorado when they were bottom feeders. Now that they're one of the teams with the best defense in the league, he's a depth player who plays just in case of injury. Andrighetto sure made a difference in Colorado when half the team were plugs and he leeched off MacKinnis for points. Now that the team is actually good? He's no longer there. Matter of fact, he's no longer in the league. Not even the league, he's not even in the continent anymore.

I couldn't give less of a shit about what players like Andrighetto or Barbiero are doing elsewhere. They are not difference-makers on real teams. They'll get their game #s up when they're on either bad teams or teams that have terrible players in their positions.
