The income tax loophole is a big one. Hopefully it's addressed in the next CBA because it's a huge competitive disadvantage.
 
If the cap goes up to $85m next year, then...

TB has approx $9m in capspace to sign their 4 key RFA, with the minimum 20 man roster.

TOR has approx $10m in capspace to sign or replace 2 of Barrie/Muzzin/Ceci, with the minimum 20 man roster.

I looked at their last three seasons, all strengths:

Marner: 10.96, 10.76, 12.70
Point: 11.53, 11.31, 14.58
Aho: 9.15, 9.90, 10.95

you need the little blue checkmark. that means their identity is verified, or at least that it was the real account that was posted to.
 
I think this does more to justify Marner's contract actually. Point's deal is the most lucrative bridge deal in the cap era.

If Point is getting $6.75 for 3 years, that probably means he was looking at $9-10 mill on a 6+ year deal, with the Tampa tax free discount.
 
He gets a 9M QO when its up but at that point I suspect he rejects it and opts for a new deal
