Draisaitl 80gms 26gls 54pts (.68ppg)

That might be the best shootout goal I've ever seen. Holy shit the hand and arm strength required. 🤯

A kid on the London Knights died and it looks like a lot of the official twitter accounts have had to turn off their comments because the #DiedSuddenly folks are turning it into a vaccine thing.

Sounds like it was by suicide sadly.

Wings finally fading. Lost 5 in a row (1 OTL) and 8 of their last 10 (2 OTL).

Sens finally picking it up. Won 4 in a row and 8 of their last 11.

Sabres seem be back on their slightly above average track after their 8gm losing streak.

Panthers just can't seem to get going and seem to be actually getting worse.

It's weird, the guys underperforming aren't the guys you would expect. Barkov was immense last year, can't buy goals this year and if memory serves he didn't play with Hubie at 5v5. Ekblad came back hot from injury but has sucked for the last 3 weeks and of course Bobrovsky is starting more games with a .891 than they're giving Spencer Knight with a .919. The longer they lie to themselves about Bobrovsky, the more they deserve the pain.

If Barkov & Ekblad were playing to standard, and Knight had started 2/3rds of their games instead of less than half, Florida is probably nipping at Tampa's heels for 3rd.

Yeah Barkov is the big drop off this year (other than the guys they loat) and linemates don't seem to be the issue.

Heck even a guy like Montour has stepped up to backfill the loss of weegar.

And we have the Cats pick so it's beeyootifullll

I think in pre season I had them for ~105 points which I'd definitely have to downgrade after this start, but I'm not sold on them being this mediocre either (85 pt pace). The forward group is legitimately very good on paper but with some notable SH% slumps going on. Losing Weegar was big, but a top 4 of Ekblad, Breakout Montour, Forsling, & Gudas isn't awesome, but it's not bad at all.

Weird bit is that it's Ekblad getting killed

and Bobrovsky has sucked, but they have the answer in house if they just choose to use it. Spencer Knight is pretty good.

Yeah Bob is the real issue there. They need to just come to terms with the terrible contract and bench him. Knight is much better at this point.

Ekblad's numbers are surprising. I blame the Staal brothers because fuck them.

Forsling also appears to be for real as a top 3 type defender.

A bit of shooter regression to the mean and glueing Bobrovsky to the bench probably fixes most of their problems. They were never going to be as good as they were last year, but they're way better than a 85 point team.

Both Staal's have been horrendous, yeah.

Taking a bit of a dive on their roster, the bottom of their roster has been a bit of a tire fire as well. They should probably be aggressive as fuck after Christmas to try to bring in some functioning bottom 6/bottom pairing bodies to replace or push down the Lomberg's, Cousins, Staals, etc.

On the one hand, Knight’s young—doesn’t even turn 22 until after this regular season is over—so I understand not leaning on him too hard.

On the other hand, he started 32 games last year and played well, so they should be ramping up his starts as long as he keeps playing well, instead of having him on-pace to still start fewer than 40 games this year.

They’re clearly still dreaming that Bob’s going to earn some of that contract if only they keep giving him enough rope.

I thought Florida overachieved big time last year, so being altogether meh this year is not even a surprise-ling for me.

It's funny. Here you have the Flames and the Panthers, both first place teams last year, and both seemingly having played way over their heads. Then they make that big trade with each other and dundundun...who won?! Doesn't matter, it was all an illusion anyway. Both teams are kinda poop.
