By that logic, what happens if Florida gets goaltending? they had none in the regular season.

IMO the gap in the Atlantic is still pretty fucking hearty

Considering Florida’s season last year, plus their second half and playoff run this year, seems a bit unlikely that the first-half version of them this season is the “real” Panthers.

Probably? Again, 2nd half of this year + playoffs + last season is a much bigger sample size.

Only wild card for me really is goaltending. Pretty good chance that Bob goes back to being shit, so they’ll have to hope that one of Knight, Lyon or whoever they acquire to be their #2 can give them at least average goaltending when Bob’s in the gutter.
 
Ottawa & Buffalo both still suck, and both will miss the playoffs again next season.

Though there will be no shortage of breathless puff pieces hyping both teams up prior to the season.
 
The thing that people never seem to account for especially with young talent teams is just how easy it is to rack up points on a bad team that plays no defense.

The leafs young core was playoffs calibre from day one - they never had years of empty offense racked up on bad no D playing teams.

Hell these "young cores" are barely younger than our core. Leafs core were already an elite team for multiple years at the same ages as these other cores.

everyone always says this but it's not really true. nhl has no more parity than any other major sport, even though you would think the nature of the sport would lend itself to naturally having more parity.

Dont know why this isnt a bigger factor. Some teams have cheap state taxes, but we have the draw of endorsements for being in Toronto.
