maybe not....I wondered if it was a typo and the cost saving was 2.5M not 25M
 
I think they'd be able to sneak a big ticket d in if they run it all back and trade those 3 guys that he referenced. Maybe even keep one of Bert or Domi. Rest of the guys would have to be cheap cheap cheap.

Definitely agree that they have to unload Kampf somehow though. That would be a dream.

10 players, but if you're removing Robertson and Lilly then you have to take their money off too, which is another $2M, and hopefully add them both back for not too much more. So 8 spots with maybe $24M, one is a spare forward like Dewar, and add Cowan and Minty, and that leaves 5 guys to add with call it $21M. Get a decent vet goalie on a $2M or $3M deal, leaves 4 players with $18M. And that's where you see what you can get out of the UFA market.

11 million dollars a year, 114th in the NHL in playoff PPG over his 6 seasons as a Leaf.

Here's just the list of guys considered complete flops since then who have outperformed him:

Kuznetsov
Seth Jones
Duchene
Hall
Svechnikov
Wheeler
Drouin
Pacioretty
Boeser
Bailey

If Tavares was a defenceman with .63ppg over the last 6 playoffs, he would be tied for 21st among fucking defencemen in scoring.

Keeping him is pure insanity.
 
Not a star on that team over $9.5mil.

Kuch put up over $16mil in value last season (by my calcs).

it's the most obvious misalignment on our roster when compared to how we allocate our cap space.

Same thing would be loading up the roster with Kampfs and Reaves and Gregors and Baboons.

The plan would be to use the money on good players this time.

It's just one more year. We can say it's another year burned, but there's no reason to believe that an actual properly constructed roster around this core can't succeed. There's far more reason for optimism that they could break through with the right depth.
