Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

You obviously don't remember the Mark Messier era in Vancouver. That was a train wreck on so many levels, both on and off the ice.
That's one of the rare exceptions.

Excluding HHOFers that retired prematurely due to injuries, such as Forsberg/Lindros, most of them play well into their 30s and are still extremely good. It's what makes 'em HHOFers to begin with.

The curious thing about Messier is that he was good with the Rangers, got shitty with the Canucks, then went back to the Rangers and was good again. In his short career with the Canucks, he got the franchise to unretire Wayne Maki's #11 so he could wear it, as well as force Trevor Linden, the most popular player who ever work a Canucks jersey, to relinquish his captaincy so they could give it to Mess. He lived in Point Roberts Washington rather than in Vancouver and commuted in for games and did next to nothing else on the ice or off of it. He certainly isn't getting a street named after him in BC the way he did in Edmonton.

And they're you have it. This is what's important down here and why the move was made.

I will be interested to see how Tkachuk works out in Florida. He had a great year and the Flames locker room was quite this year. He tends to be disliked by teammates. An instigator who doesn't back it up. He has so much talent and an ability to agitate like the great pests of the past. At the same time he is unlikable to me like Marchand. Great players I love to cheer against.

To me it appeared that he never wanted to be there and stepped up in NY.
The whole thing was weird. The Rangers crushed Canucks fans in the 94 finals then, next thing you know, Vancouver signs Keenan to coach and Messier as a free agent for the then-astronomical sum of $11 million. It always seemed to me like they were rubbing the fans noses in shit. The Canucks were essentially paying these guys off for what they already did to them rather than anything they could do for them in the future. And then to make matters worse, Messier gets Linden, the most popular Canuck in franchise history, run out of town (after ripping the C away from him first) He also got the team to unretire the late Wayne Maki's #11 so he could wear it. But he always acted as though he never asked for any of those things to happen, even though he pretty much demanded that they happen.

"With that being said, it would be an absolute shock to see him anywhere close to this list next season. He’s a talent worth betting on, even if the odds lowered after last season."

It's not a 5 year process. Just ask the fans in Montreal who are ready to start adding Hubs/PLD lol. It's like a 1 year process, then you go middle of the pack for 20 years and then you try another small rebuild.
Hey, ever think that fans know there'll never be a true rebuild and come up with hybrid ideas that are actually more realistic than your pipe dream?

Didn't think so.

I just want to see a dynasty before I die. I actually am half sarcastic because we haven't seen HuGo cave in to the eager beaver fans who don't understand how to build a team with a cap. I guess I will still reserve judgement until next draft.
