Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the Leafs current d corps, and their performance as individuals and as a team in recent history.

once you did that, you would realize the Leafs have been strong defensively, particularly last season.

and of course, Dubas has already acquired two legit top-four shutdown d-men since he was hired. he rebuilt our top 4. plus those two first round draft picks who are now ready to contribute.

That is funny....Leaf defensive is average at best.. but hey, keep smoking whatever you are smoking.. in regards to Hyman, it isn't about the amount of goals he gets, most of what will be missed are intangibles, plus his 5 on 5 stats

I assume you do not rely on any evidence or statistics to back up your misguided opinion.

But I promised enlightenment.

Last season at 5-on-5, Leafs were a top-10 team in Corsi against; were #3 in expected goals percentage; #7 in expected goals against; #11 in scoring chances against; despite having bottom six goaltending.

I think you have the whole "defence" and "goaltending" concepts confused.

What intangibles of Hyman's are we missing exactly? Bunting is cheaper and better. He draws lots of penalties. He gets under opponent's skins.

You already have goal scorers far better than Hyman and what have they done for you? Hyman has more character than both Willie & Mitchy
and what has Hyman's character won him, exactly?

and how does one evaluate "character" through a TV screen? or do you have access to psychological exams conducted by NHL teams? if so, please do share.

Tsk tsk…. that word cannot be used in the land of analytics known as Make Beliefs

I mean I can just pick a random English word and claim that all your clubs failings are as a result of that, and when you try to debate me on it, say no no no, you don't understand what that means.

Hyman, playoffs, career Toronto: 32GP, 5G, 8A. (82GP pace: 12G, 21A)

I did not realize we needed more playoff underperformers
psst he scored 11 goals last year with the Oil,.. can you enlighten us on that? i am more curious on what excuse you are going to draw on..

so you're telling me that past playoff performance is not a likely indicator of future playoff performance? in that case, I don't understand why you think we should move on from our super talented top-four forwards, right?

Of course you don't understand what it means... the leafs haven't made it past the 1st round in how long?

I have argued all along that letting Hyman go was correct. Its habfans who are being inconsistent on why we should have kept him.

Someone suggested he was needed in the playoffs. I pointed out his poor playoff performance as a Leaf.

Then his performance with Edmonton was brought up. I took this point to mean that past playoff performance is not actually relevant to future playoff performance. So no need to worry about past seasons disappointments for the remainder of our roster, thanks for that.

And of course, no one has actually rebutted the point that Bunting is cheaper and better.

The Leafs got a cheaper player who can perform at a higher level than the guy who walked a UFA, and got to spend his cap space upgrading the roster elsewhere.

Yet somehow this is bad management?

I like Bunting, but i do not think he is better than Hyman.

as someone who watched them both closely (I know eyes > stats on this board ;)), I prefer Bunting.

he is significantly more skilled, a much better finisher, a better passer, and more annoying to play against.

Hyman skates really aggressively in straight lines though, and is a king at fumbling pucks and missing chances.

why do you think Hyman is better?
