Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Roy will need to adjust his game , doubt he plays on the top 6
I don't. He showed why players like Bedard need a guy like him. Elite hockey IQ and he has well above average skills.

Now is he a lock? Nobody is really. But I really think you guys are selling Roy very short.

I know the rules. None justify not using it. The Habs immediately traded for Monahan as soon as they knew Price would be on LTIR. There is no way they won’t use that LTIR space again next year.
Well, if that's what Molson wants I get what you're saying. It's just that it is getting abused (remember $18m over the cap?) and there are rumblings that it will go away.

The real issue is carry forward bonuses. You operate next year in LTIR and you're carrying bonuses to the year after when they start becoming competitive.

I just don't think it's a long-term solution to anything.

I would love to have Bedard, and a better center than Suzuki, and a better winger than Caufield. Doesn’t make those guys 2nd liners.
You see, Habsy is just being “cute” here but Geeman is just out to lunch on this one. Caufield is the 2nd fastest to 50 goals in Habs history. That’s a bloody long period. The only teams I can think of on which he possibly wouldn’t be a first line wing right now are the Oilers (because of how they use Leon), the Leafs, the Caps, Dallas and Tampa. That’s about it. Sure he’s a one trick pony but it’s the the most important trick.

You really think they'll move him off Suzuki's line once he's not top line center?

I get it, but teams needs and will monetize LTIR to max value. Getting first round picks is a great way to do that. Molson doesn’t pay Price anyway, insurance does.

Yeah. I can see one more year however any fan with half a brain would realize it signals they're not really trying to win.

There’s a decent chance we land Fantili or Carlsson, who I think are projected to be 1C.

What about Yager and Smith? Are they 1C?

You really think a better center wouldn’t benefit from Caufield on the wings?
Sure. I can see Caufield the Vet being on a rooks wing. I just don't think it will be necessary. We'll have better wingers, and quite soon. Within 2 years.

Sure, name a team that has a 5`7" one trick pony as a core player and are competitive

Those teams you mentioned have the goods we dont have for Cole to fit in

The star power of CMD, Leon , Marner , Matthews , Hedman , Kuch , Point , etc...

He isnt Rantanen that bring a 200 foot power game to the table

If all we have is Nick and CC as our top 2 players , team is fucken doomed .

Name me a team that has a 40 goal scorer on their 2nd line.

Any time I say "X player is a 1st/2nd/3rd liner", my intent is always what I think that player would be on a Cup contender. There are always exceptions to the rules, but in a general sense.

This is a game I like to play every year. If you're not sure where you'd slot a player, if he's a 1st vs 2nd liner, or a 2nd vs 3rd liner, etc. then all you have to do is ask yourself: Where would he be slotted on the best teams in the league if everyone's healthy?

Take Bawstun, or Colorado, or Carolina, Tampa Bay or even Las Vegas...

Would Cole Caufield or Nick Suzuki be on those teams' first lines?

Caufield & Suzuki aren't first liners on any of those teams.

I think they're easily first liners on bad-to-mediocre teams, though. But once you have a team that's legitimately ready to compete for a Cup, I don't think those two are on the first line. However, I think there's a much better argument to make for Caufield being on the first line than Suzuki.

Agreed on Caufield being more of a first line player than Suzuki, even though Suzuki is a better player, because of position.

Doesn't mean we can't be one within the next three years. We already have one. We will find another.
