Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Broberg was played in the western final and SCF without being an injury replacement. So they probably fucked that up real good. Point being they intentionally played a worse lineup until it matter the most.
I personally don't understand the sudden Philip Broberg love now that he might be leaving.

If I'm Deadmonton, I let both of 'em go.

Me too. But they made their own bed with broberg. He was asking for 1.8m and now he is almost 5. And though the Oilers had shockingly zero D injuries this year they should have had him in the NHL

I don't think they were sitting Broberg out of malice. They've watched him for years and they've seen him play. If he was any good, he would have been in the lineup. They put him in the lineup because they were in need of someone who could move the puck, which is one of his primary skills.

Before his draft year, the times I watched Broberg, you could always tell he has tools and talent... But you could also see he had bad decision making abilities, sort of like a computer with a good motherboard but not enough RAM to make it all go smoothly. I think that's the correct metaphor...

But he played in the playoffs. And not due to injury.

there is no excuse not to integrate 2 cheap ELC players on that roster

Holloway was excellent in the playoffs and Broberg didn’t look out place

There was no need to keep Perry or Jarnmark or pay other slugs over these 2

Poor asset management

Holloway was not excellent in the playoffs and he played 2/3 of his games in the NHL. Injuries are his main issues

Yeah, we got a decent Cory Perry for peanuts but that was years ago...not sure he brings anything these days..or any days the past 2-3 years

From a hockey perspective it makes sense as they now can accrue cap space during the year

Terrible asset management
No one lives in expectation of a hostile offer sheet, let alone two of them. Holloway they could have kept but at the same time, guys like him can be found anywhere and everywhere for cheap. Broberg might pan out but it may take more than the 2 year deal to which the Blues have signed him for us to see it. In the meantime it's a massive overpay for a guy who spent most of the season in Bakersfield because he couldn't crack a mediocre blue line in Edmonton.
