Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

Here is one way they could spend that cap space. 3 top 9 forwards, 2 top pair D and a stud goalie and resign Lilly and Robertson.

Of course they could also just keep Tavares and only add one D and cheap out in net. That is an option.

It's addition by subtraction and it's not because JT is a terrible player, he's not. He's just not what we need anywhere. We need more speed and physicality at 5v5 and on the PP we need puck retrieval and net front presence. He's not really either of those.

One of the better teams, but never one of the best. They’ve never won the division or even been in the race other than the fake Covid year. Never been in the race for a presidents trophy. Never won more than 5 playoff games

And they’ve never combined good forward depth, with a good D core and goaltending and enough depth to deal with injuries/suspensions in the playoffs which happen ever year (Kadri, JT/Muzz, Nylander, Matthews, etc).

Isn't that a 2 fold problem? Spending too much on aging core players and terrible at picking out depth.
 
And of course looking at that past totally ignores that Willy has been on a bargain deal and next year he is also a top 10 paid player in the league. So the core 4 is much more expensive this year.

"Perfect" might be a bit of an exaggeration.

Keep Bert and domi signings.

You still had space for duchene and gudas vs kampf, Reaves and klingberg... it was a choice to sign bad players
 
and every year they've wasted more money value on bad depth players than on those elite players.

Well whatever the case, no GM has been able to do it. Leaves less of a margin for error than most organizations have.

Its wild to me that the Canucks fan base are bitching about anything, anything at all and there team is tied at 2 in the second round of the playoffs. What in the fuck were the expectations over there?

Yeah over 50% on 4 forwards is nuts.

25-26 looks sweet though. Sure would be nice to expedite that by dumping Cap.
