yah so Pesce has spent most of his career next to Slavin and Skjei. and I think he's gonna ride their coattails to a nice big UFA contract that I want no part of.

Step 2: Sign Montour, and Skjei and get Saros

The last two cup winners were Darcy Kuemper and Adin Hill. And this year you may get Stuart Skinner. Hardly any world beaters. Prioritize rebuilding the d corps imo. If they're keeping Tavares and Marner then they're not gonna have any space to pay a goalie real money. I'd rather give that cash to a d or two.

Edit: and before the "Skinner and Kuemper are good" comments come rolling out. I mean maybe, but Kuemper went .902 in the playoffs and they still won. Skinner is currently .897. They just had/have super elite teams. I want the Leafs to have that for once.

Also, playoff numbers are small sample sizes. Skinnner was amazing last round, and maybe stole Edmonton the series (at the very least robbed game 6). Thats why you want good goalies.
 
Bobrovsky has been beating every superior goalie to him this entire playoff. Other than maybe Vas, who may suck now. Why? Because fluggernaut. I'm not saying good goalies don't help but they're not as mandatory as having a super elite top 2-3 team. Let's do that first before we waste assets on a goalie that won't actually win them anything. Goalies just don't steal cups anymore. You have to be a juggernaut team to win.

Of course if they trade Tavares then you can rebuild the d and acquire a solid more established goalie..but even then, you spend 6m on a goalie and I don't have full confidence that it'll work out as well as spending 6m on a forward or d. Might be a worthwhile thing to try but there's too much variance to know for sure.

You need both. It’s not a one or the other thing. Having a juggernaut includes have good goaltending.

No one is saying be the Rangers.

I'm talking about value. And it is one or the other because there isn't cap space to do both unless they trade Tavares.
 
I get the premise and I'm not opposed to it. But I think it's a waste of assets to trade for one year of Saros when you don't have the cap space to rebuild your d.
