Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

2019-20 (first year of Core 4 BIG contracts): 49.9% of cap
2020-21: 49.9%
2021-22: 49.9%
2022-23: 48.8%
2023-24: 48.3%
2024-25: 53.2% of the cap

If there is anything we've learned the last 6 its you absolutely have to invest even more money in the core 4 to win.

2021-22 we could have had Hyman for $5 mill, Kadri for $4.5 mill and McCann for $2.9 mill. Instead we had Tavares.

Kadri 71 gp, 28 gls
McCann 74 gp, 27 gls
Hyman 76 gp, 27 gls
Tavares 79 gp, 27 gls
I think they could have had hyman for even less. And also that Tavares deal undoubtedly raises the prices on Matthews Marner and now nylander.

I didn’t hate the idea of the move at the time so I guess I’m almost as dumb as dumbas, but What a disaster.

We had Kadri at that number. We tossed him away for Barrie and Kerf.

We could've had Hyman at his current number. We brought in other guys instead.

We chose to lose McCann and keep Holl and Kerf.

All of those guys could've been on the same team that year, no problem.

The tavares deal is easy to look on now after how many covid years of $0 cap increases. Under any set of moderately normal financial models he would be the 5-7th highest paid player on the roster
