Didn't read it but i dare anyone to look at the caphits of the two finalists and claim they spent money on depth.

And the bigget waste in the Leafs top brackets isn't even the 4 forwards. It's Brodie (top bracket) and Klingberg (mid bracket) making ~11% of the cap and not being able to make the playoffs lineup.

The Panthers and Oilers only have one mistake like that each - Campbell (top bracket) and Knight (mid bracket).

It’s not exactly what the article was about.

You make it sound like teams can only shoot their wad on the elite echelon… you are ignoring the middle class guys (that become affordable when you don’t pay 4 kings)

What’s depth players? Florida and Edmonton spent 62-64% of their cap on everything other than their top 4 forwards and the Leafs are in a position to spend 47% of the cap on non top 4 forwards next year.

That’s top of the lineup, middle of the lineup and depth players. It’s nuts.

This may shock some people. But no, fuck no unless Calgary is giving us other good stuff. Tavares is not worth 11 million. His market value is probably closer to 6 and moving on from the failed captain is a net positive for culture and all of that good stuff imo. But nothing humps a lineup faster than investing real money in bad goaltending. Even Samsonov's 3.5 for dogshit this year was bad enough. 6 million on a 34 yr old coming off of a slightly above average season is dumb. Just sign Talbot on a 2 yr for less than half the AAV and Robidas him if father time comes knocking if there's no Ullmark/Saros/Sorokin trade out there. This is not complicated.
