Honestly not sure why people are so convinced Tavares won't waive at all. If his time in Toronto is over (out of his control, whether he wants to stretch it one more year or not, if the organization is moving on from him, it's moving on from him) then at least he has control right now about where he wants to move and he can look for an extension now as part of the process while he's coming off of a ~30/65 season.

He's a new coach deciding that he's a bad fit on PP1 from a 20/40 season as a 34 yr old and lowball as fuck offers in free agency next year. Pick your new home now, get a 3-4 yr extension out of them at your 6-7 million dollar number and move on.

If we trade Marner but keep Tavares, that's a fucking catastrophe for next year imo unless the Marner trade is a hilarious slam dunk of a move.

Not sure why the leafs should even make it a choice. "Here's the deal. We're moving on from you. Either we sit you out all year or you work with us to make a trade happen." Fuck that guy, leafs owe him nothing.
 
Pretty sure the Sportsnet trade suggestion with Calgary that all the shit rumor sites are now spouting has given me full blown aids.
