Four Nations

9 pages in this thread and I reckon wehave posts take up at least 5 of the pages. With every post telling us that he doesn't care about this tournament and will not enjoy it. I'm sure his next post will be different
I will enjoy it to a point. But I won't enjoy it nearly as much as watching the NHL because I don't care about the tournament and the outcome of it is irrelevant to me. But I'd just as soon watch a Laval Rocket game than Canada v USA.

Also, I'm driving traffic to this thread, Ctrl-Alt-Presto.

And what if, the day after, it is revealed that Matthews was playing on a broken leg and will be out for the rest of the regular season and playoffs?

McAvoy is shocked some fans think the tournament will have the intensity of All-Star weekend.

“I heard that this morning, and that was the first time,” the Boston Bruins defenseman said. “I try not to be too much on social, but when someone said that to me, they were like, ‘This is going to be a glorified All-Star Game,’ I couldn’t believe it. I mean, really, I couldn’t believe it.

“There’s not one person here at this event that wouldn’t do anything to win this tournament, and I think that’s shared amongst everybody. There’s no … I don’t know, I’ve never been to an All-Star Game. You can have the All-Star Game. I’d rather play in this instead.”

a bunch of players took games off for injury but came back just to play in this tourney - Crosby Rantanen missed the last few games and Doughty missed most the season. Probably some others.

The only guy who seems to have pulled himself despite not missing any nhl games is Pietro i think.

And for me that's all that matters. If the players care as much as they clearly do, a best on best tournament is going to be the best hockey we'll ever watch.

Name it the Olympics, 4 nations, deep throat cock fest, I don't care really. I just want to watch good hockey. I don't even care so much about who wins.

without knowing what any of these injuries are or experience working in a medical capacity of any kind, my diagnosis is that all these players should sit out this tournament because what if they get hurt maybe

players get hurt in practice. they get hurt in regular season games. they should all sit until the playoffs.

When Hasek and the Czechs won gold, they were technically the best hockey nation on earth.

I know your post doesn't stop there, but it should have.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. We had literally the greatest player in the history of the game out there taking the shot we needed to advance, and we lost to them. Point, blank, period. "But, but, we're ackshually still the bestest in the world becuzz..." is some baby loser bitch talk. Take the L like a man ffs.

Hasek was stupid good at that point. He had a .961 at that tournamebt. Only gave up 6 goals in 6 games, and I highly doubt the Czech d was that good.

For my money he's the best goalie of all time, and he was at his absolute peak during that period.

hard to argue....922 lifetime save%

and several jaw dropping seasons including one where he played 72 games of .932

6 year run of leading the league in SV%, 5 of them being .930 or higher is insanity.

From 93/94-98/99, Hasek was 1st in the league with a combined .930 sv%. Patrick Roy was 2nd with a .915. That's a fucking huge gap over a guy widely regarded as a top 5 goalie of all time, right in the middle of his prime.

honestly i think the anti-world cup / pro-olympics stuff is just some weird distillation of anti-bettman stuff.

even though bettman's the one who got the nhl into the olympics in the first place.

and even though it's probably the NHLPA's fault that the world cups didn't keep happening.
