Yeah it was rough. Unless you get hit by a bus, dying isn't an event but a process. A long, agonizing process. My dad took about 3 or 4 days to get there, and the process was nearly as brutal for us who had to watch helplessly as it was for him, laboring to breathe, hungry but unable to eat, thirsty but unable to drink or swallow, his skin taking on the look of wax as his organs slowly shut down and his blood pooled underneath him.
Do yourselves a failure. Write up a will with precise instructions about how you want to go or be sent off this earth. My dad had a DNR order but he didn't leave any instructions which would have made it possible for us to help end his agony sooner.
