Habs acquire Alex Newhook

I don't think either one is correct. Neither team robbed the other, it lands in the middle.

The whole, "he's 22! He's still young!" shit only goes so far with me. It's like when we had Nathan Beaulieu. For a long time, it was the same thing with him. He's young, he's this, he's learning, he's that, he's etc. At what point does the word potential become synonymous with "excuse making"?

One of the issues I have with this trade is, Colorado was going to have a hard time re-signing him. They were in a position where they had to get rid of some players because MacKinnon's new $12.6M contract (that Avs fans insisted was a bargain, el oh el) kicks in. Still not sure why we had to give up both picks to acquire him.

We shall see, though.

Newhook's going to be a winger here. He's a natural center who couldn't beat out TJ Compher for the second center slot in Colorado.

He's not beating out Suzuki, won't beat out Dach (if Dach is used at center), not sure he beats out Dvorak as the #3 center either.
Was still just his sophomore season though and was only 21.

But I'm not loving having 2 smaller centres as the top 2 even if he does pan out.

That would be a massive mistake if that's what they actually think.

I'm of the belief that we don't have a single truly elite player (we have an elite goal scorer, but that's it) in the organization & the rebuild can't really stop until we get one.
I think that is what it was saying though. We have a bunch of middle 6 type of prospects. We were not drafting an elite one at 31 or 37.

I'm not a fan of the cost but I can understand it.

Honestly, it's not that much. With Florida advancing so far into the playoffs, their first became a 2nd rounder. So the price seems fair.

I find it interesting the release states “rights to forward Alex Newhook” vs acquired Alex Newhook. I get he theoretically needs a new contract.

Last draft Dach was in same contractual situation and Habs stated they acquired Dach not rights to Dach

maybe Alex will spend a few days eating at Montreal restaurant before being shipped to Winnipeg

Exactly , he couldnt play in Colorado`s top 6 there was no need to overpay

I would of gambled on a higher ceiling kid
