But PLD & Suzuki are players that would both be slotted around the same place on contending teams and while PLD undoubtedly makes this team better in the immediate, it doesn't help for the long-term future. Acquiring PLD this off-season via trade will keep this team closer to consistent mediocrity like Ottawa. We'll be good enough to maybe make a push for the playoffs, but in reality? Everyone would know deep down, this ain't a real playoff contender.

Stay the course, accumulate picks, draft players and develop them. Take flyers on some former highly regarded players that aren't working out somewhere and hope they figure it out here.

Next year is a bit more pressure to push for a playoff spot and not be out of it by the 50 game mark

Hugo will need to keep revamping , and hopefully we land a top 4 pick

A bit more production out of Nick and a healthy Cole and Dach goes a long way to give the team some top 6 consistent pieces to work with because that’s all we have

I expect an uptick in our young D with only Guhle being a legit #3 , with the hope he can be a 2D one day

I expect Anderson to be moved as some team will offer a good return

Hope a few kids push for a spot like Beck and very happy that Laval will have a new look with components that will feed the big club in 2024/2025 .

The following year is the one where expectations rise if player development improves

We all want to win but a tear down needs 4 years to start seeing results , team had almost zilch to start with for Hugo

Nero fucked it up royally , time and patience is required

Both of us have been preaching patience for years as the much needed rebuild goes on

Other members want PLD or others to accelerate another patch job

Sal says the rebuild is over after we were supposed to acquire Letang and Malkin

PLD is only a year older than Suzuki, he can be part of the core group going forward. We need a lot of pieces. We need to look at all avenues, draft, trades and free agency.

So the fact they'd sell a gazillion jerseys doesn’t factor in with you because you ignore the business aspect of hockey aside from cap.

You fanboy this instead of look at the whole picture. I liken this to my opinion of Disney. Disney has fucked up generations of girls and boys with that princess shit. There is no prince fucking charming. They put these unrealistic expectations in girls and then boys can never equal the dream. Generations of delusional expectations.

Habs don't need Dubois. Dubois is in that upper echelon of players though that are easily worth a mid first. But let's fanboy this and just say nah.

Truth is he'll cost more than that and then I pass and wait for ufa.
 
I’m not a huge PLD fan. Wouldn’t trade a single asset for him. We can sign him as a UFA if he wants to come here so badly. If not, who cares? He’s not a game changer or needle mover - the Jets are pretty much where they were before they traded for him - and we need another year anyway to see what Dach really is, and we might draft a center anyway in June.

Dach might be a stroke of genius by HuGo, but it was also opportunistic… credit for getting it done with the NYI pick. Very clever. But I wouldn’t count on that kind of scenario reoccur to build a core. Chicago kinda went nuts there.

Draft well of course, but soon-to-be expiring UFAS are more common and offer more opportunities.

If the rumors are true about PLA that he is just waiting for UFA and wants to play for the Habs, signing him as an UFA would be 7 years at $8 +/- so Suzuki contract and PLD would be ending around the same time.. i have no issues with this..
