KK Signs Offer Sheet From Canes/Habs Don't Match

Putting aside the fact that I felt he was a bad pick at no. 3 from the get go, I still would have matched the OS. MB had better hope that his evaluation of KK as of September 2022 was the correct one or this one will be hard to live down for him . . . unless Dvorak turns out be a real gem, which seems unlikely.

Agreed , take the picks and move on

Dvorak would need to up his game to the 60-70 point level

Nero is win now mode , so we has desperate to do something

A chance for 2 lottery picks heading into a solid draft ...oh well

2003 was a “solid draft” so was 1979, how did they turn out for Habs?

Habs should simply trade every 1st rounder going forward for young NHL ready assets unless it’s a can’t miss prospect

CC, Guehle , ..... gotta turn around at some point

The list is just a bunch of names unless you at least include who got picked at #2 and #4. In KK's case it doesn't make the Habs look like geniuses.

Dvorak is already better than KK so the onus is on KK to get better, not Dvorak. The only stat in which KK is ahead of Dvorak is number of games played in the AHL. KK is leading 13-4 (and 2 of Dvorak's AHL appearances were when he was still junior eligible)

KK is what he is. His biggest obstacle is what's between his ears (or, more precisely, what isn't) Million dollar talent, five cent brain.

Dvorak is four years older. While I have zero issues having him as a center on our team, let’s put everything in context shall we?

I've suggested the same thing, at least until Bergevin and Timmins are no longer with the organization. They have proven time and time again that they have no clue when it comes to drafting top end, first round talent. They've wasted so many picks on longshots, trying to prove to everyone how clever they are. They just need to admit they know nothing and trade those picks for proven commodities.

We didn't have a first round pick in 1979 and still ended up with Naslund, Carbonneau, Gingras and Wamsley (which I loved as a kid for some reason).

KK was the most intriguing player on the team. That was part of the fun, waiting to see if could improve more. Same with Sergachev, the team took that joy away from watching him develop. Getting tired of this team messing up top draft picks.

Might become a good player one day . . . but might not. I would’ve matched but only to see what he becomes. He was unquestionably drafted way too high.

There was a pundit (who's name escapes me) on 690 yesterday or the day before who perfectly encapsulated my feelings on KK. He said that in 3 years he never saw Kotkaniemi do anything that made him say "Wow!" There wasn't a single moment where he did something "special" or something to make you think "Aha! This is why they drafted him." And having Suzuki around only brings this into more sharp contrast.

There was never a WOW factor with KK , just like there is none with BT

Totally unrealistic expectations put on this kid

If the Canes get 60 points out of him and is a good 2 way player , thats your expectation met

It’s pretty much what Bergevin said, they weren’t prepared to make that determination right now and their hand got forced. What caused him to walk was uncertainty on the players ceiling and especially the salary structure with Suzuki and Caufield.

Carolina did it right, when you offer sheet make it painful.

Sean Campbell yesterday ... he’s no pundit, he’s one of their staff

I’ve never seen the WOW factor in KK either, then again Drouin has that WOW factor but results haven’t been there either except for one TBay playoffs

If the Habs had even 50% certainty KK might develop they would’ve matched.. to me it’s a clear indication they simply feel he’s got too many flaws & to much of a hill to climb to overcome in 2-3 years

Or being the son of a coach he may have been a little difficult?

In this and last year's playoffs, KK scored a number of key Gallagher-like garbage goals, not many guys on the Habs do that often enough. I would have liked to keep him around, even if he turns into another Eller. However, at $6.1 million and the ripple effects on contracts to other players, I don't think it would have been worth it.

That was the entire issue. Dvorak is a decent add but obviously would have been better to add him to KK and Suzuki.
