Leafs acquire Matt Murray

the other options were to wing it, or give Jack campbell (whose older than Murray and at their respective bests a clear step down) life changing money.

dubas got played in terms of value but I think I’m ultimately less upset about this one than PAYING the mediocre campbell.
Same. I think that's the only reasonable way to look at it.

And we have to assume they called on every goalie out there and knew about Talbot but felt Murray was better. Right or wrong, they must like the guy a fair bit, and no doubt some of that is from their history with him.

If he stays healthy, I don't see why he'd be bad for us. I'm expecting him to surprise. And I do think Jack could surprise in the other direction in front of a shit D like Edmonton's, and get himself hurt or crushed early and often and be useless within a couple of years of the deal. I certainly don't think he's their missing piece, that's for sure.

I don’t hate the player. Just really disappointed we didn’t bend the Sens over considering their position. Dubas got taken to the cleaners on a deal where we had all the leverage and the Sens had none.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Murray has a good year and makes me look like a dummy. I’d be 100% ok with this.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if he was hurt/shit and we used his LTIR along with more assets to find an adequate replacement.

Time is ticking. We all laughed that the Oilers wouldn’t be able to keep McDavid due to lack of team success. We’re not far off with Matthews. Poor goaltending decisions will sink our season.

I think hearing players talk about loving the Leafs as a kid has kinda reached it's end. Ever since Foligno brought that smelly old hat. Not sure I want to hear it anymore. Ok you loved the Leafs as a kid like us.... OH GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Too bad Dubas put him in this position, seems like an easy guy to root for.

Hoping he can build off the emotional attachment to the Leafs and his dad and get his shit together

Child hood dreams dont work out for all but I hope for his sake it does. Would be a good story

Can they get any worse than 27th in sv% in the league?

this is not a big balls move - he trapped himself and this is the reaction to not being able over 3-4 off-seasons to fix our net.

It's a big balls move in the sense that there were "safer" options. He could have given Jack 5x5 and the majority of Leafs Nation would have been happy with that, even though it's a worse move.

I use to worry about term with players and the future. Now that our boys are entering year 7, and Tavares year 5 of his deal, I don't think we should worry too much about 4-5 years from now. We absolutely have to win this year.

Heard a bunch of talking heads say the Leafs can't sign anyone longer than 2 years because of Matthews/Nylander. Marner, Tavares and Rielly are their only players signed longer than 2 years though. They have the cap room to pay both the max when they are UFAs.

Signing goalies to long term deals just isn't a good idea period. Most of them anyway.

It isn't a good idea, but Leafs are doing a lot of planning for the future. But the future is now. If they don't win now, Shanny, Dubas are done, maybe a future FA wants out. I'd like Dubas around as it seems he has a good relationship with matthews.
I was all about being careful in 2017-2020. Now things are different. If a contract burns them in 3 years, so be it.

I still think something must have happened with the organization and him that they can't trust him.
Maybe the injury was all mental and they were having another Freddie on their hands.

Term is one thing, but I think they didn't like his frail ego.
