Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

W Grebyonkin (19): KHL 40gms, 10gl/34pt

Remembering that this is actually a 50pt pace since he moved to his new team and actually started getting minutes.....is this the most impressive performance in the system this year?
he's shooting up my internal forward prospect ranks, at least.

This is good to see, but the Debbie Downer caveat I’d add for any of our Russian prospects is that the level of competition in the KHL this year has got to be pretty much at an all-time low.

FWIW, Wheeler got to the Leafs today in his system rankings - 18th in the league.

His internal ranks have a clearcut 4 "top prospects" though not stud prospects, followed by what he says is one of the deepest collections of B and C prospects in the league:

1. Knies
2. Robertson
3. Minten
4. Niemela
---
5. Moldenhauer
6. Hirvonen
7. Hildeby
8. Woll
9. Tverberg
10. Voit
---
11. Grebyonkin
12. Villeneuve
13. Petruzzelli
14. Akhtyamov
15. Peksa

He also said there were 8 other guys in contention for the bottom tier, which is more than any teams had in that category too - SDA, Miettenin, Lisowsky, Ovchinnikov, Kressler, Miller, Kokkonen, Koster.

He's a dummy but this seems about right. Not a single prospect gets me horny but they have a deeeeep system.

Yeah, I could nitpick but that's a decent list. There's no way Woll should be that high, current heater notwithstanding, but yeah. That's a better list than some other I've seen.

My one bit of crankiness here is going to be the league ranking. It's funny how when a objective system is used, we rank highly. But as soon as it's subjective, we're mid pack or worse. There aren't 17 teams with better prospect pools than us. This has been consistent in the hockey media for 20 years now. Even when we were fucking loaded with the wunderkids, prospect watchers were ranking Buffalo, Winnipeg, etc ahead of us.

better than most in the industry. of the talking asses, his is closest to how I would have my own

yeah i would probably push Grebyonkin and Villeneuve up into that 2nd tier, and drop Woll down into the 3rd.
I'd prolly have Voit a little higher too.

Agreed re Greby and Woll. Think he has Hildeby in the right spot, most others do not.

Top four seem accurate, can bicker about the order but I think Robertson is 1/2 and Niemala is 3/4 and then the rest don't matter as much.

I for one am happy to see the Knies over rating as a consistent thing. He's the exact type of prospect the industry gets wrong. If only had he torn up the WJHC instead of being invisibile at it in 2021.

Amazing, 3 franchise players in one draft (and a draft that appears to have had a lot of landmines).

The only thing that could have made this draft better for Dallas, would be if the selected Makar over Heiskanen.

Unreal stuff. Is he's legit, as things stand, they're going to need to ditch Murray in the offseason. Sammy will probably require 2x what he's making at least, depending on how far we go, and Murray is then a $5M backup.
