New Canadian Politics Thread

Interesting press conference being given by Liberal MP on the divisions growing in Canada specifically on covid regulations. Basically he calmly stating his opinions and reasons for his unease with the governments present position on mandates. He has said that he is not the only MP. who holds the more moderate views and wants the Liberals to moderate their direction or at least reevaluate current measures or at lease provide a roadmap for going forward.

When questioned about his going public he said that he hopes the party will accept that members can have diverse opinions and he still wants to remain as the Liberal MP representing his riding and will remain a Liberal, but he will not run in the next election for any party.

Sounds like Lightbound's concerns are more around stuff like entry restrictions, requiring vaccines for train+air travel, and stuff like that. You know, stuff that the feds can actually do. Although that being said, some of his comments might not be quite what you want your caucus to be thinking: "It is time we stopped dividing people, pitting people against each other. The tone and policies of my government have changed since #elxn44 -- now the approach stigmatizes and divides people."

This isn't that fucking complicated. You don't need to make some grand political stand. There's a pile of laws and by laws being broken, fucking enforce them and most of this problem will sort itself out. You have a noise ordinance (a db limit during the day, and a disturbance based system after 11pm), fucking use it. You have parking laws, enforce them, etc. This really isn't complicated. Like in most "movements", there's a whole lot of pretenders surrounding the real ones. The first goal is to dissuade those not fully committed from sticking around.
they didn't try fucking anything and they're all out of ideas. fucking useless clowns.

Lot of these guys just plain have mental health issues and are extremely susceptible to disinformation/conspiracy shit, IMO. He sounds off his rocker.

Admittedly I haven't followed it much but it doesn't seem like there's too much of a cohesive theme or reasoning for the protest. I track that dude I knew from high school who is one of the leading Canadian "patriots" (it fascinates me deeply to get into their heads) and he's all over the place. What is it about exactly?

“You just make me king of the Canada and this whole thing will end”

my god.

Just shameful that Trudeau won't sit down and negotiate with these totally reasonable people.

I'm sure they'd be willing to set aside their demands and settle for one of them getting named Governor-General, enough of them being appointed to the Senate to have a majority, the Liberal Party of Canada being outlawed and all of its MP's expelled from Parliament and Trudeau, several of his cabinet ministers and any NDP or Liberal Premiers being hung from a gibbet in front of Parliament.

Trudeau does not have to negotiate with them but as the PM of all Canadians he or one of his representative should at least be able to listen to a few representative from the less looney fringe protesters without resorting to name calling.

It would also help If the protest wasn’t receiving so much outside support not just financially but also from the general public. Most average people do not support these blockades but there is a very significant number who do and agree with the general idea of removing most restrictions.
